St.Barths Gourment Festival - November

For three days in November watch as St.Barths takes centre stage in the culinary world. Currently in its third year, St.Barths Gourmet Festival showcases the finest cuisine that the island has to offer, bringing together local executive chefs and Michelin starred special guests from abroad to create exceptional cuisine which you are sure to remember when returning from your luxury villa holiday.

In the latest edition the festival French cuisine was suitably put at the heart of this must attend event. Chefs are hosted by hotels such as Eden Rock and Le Barthe Lemy and are invited to prepare either a 4 or 8-course tasting menu, which showcases their individual take on the island cuisine.

Elsewhere on the island, a number of other events take place, giving you the opportunity to learn the trade secrets. Why not take a wine tasting or cooking class by the talented chefs themselves.

St.Barths Gourmet Festival really is worth a visit and maintains the islands strong position as the centre of gastronomy in the Caribbean in a picture perfect setting.

St.Barths Christmas Village – December

Whilst sipping on a warm glass of mulled wine and taking winter walks may not be befitting in St.Barths, Christmas is still celebrated in a big way here. Take the kids down to the Port of Gustavia to meet santa and there is even a children’s parade and ‘best costume’ competition to have fun with.

Stroll about the pretty docks and you will find a charming Christmas village where the boutiques and local shops set up outside – a great excuse for a shopping expedition on your luxury villa holiday. Friendly locals also sell their own handmade crafts and particularly woven goods; something the island has a longstanding tradition with. These make great souvenirs to take home with you.

There is a fantastic atmosphere at this time of the year as the height of the season comes into full swing and what better way to get into the Christmas spirit on the island.

 St.Barths Film Festival – April

First launched in 1996 the St.Barths Film Festival presented a great opportunity to introduce the cultural richness of Caribbean cinema. Focusing on documentaries and feature films, the festival has provided St.Barths a stage to host regional filmmakers as part of a celebratory event, not only showcase their work but to encourage collaboration and discussion around Caribbean cinema.

Interestingly the festival also sees filmmakers present talks at local schools on their careers to impart inspiration and cultural understanding of its importance to students. In recent years students have been involved by making their own documentary about the festival perhaps inspiring careers of their own.

Head to AJOE or Flamands Beach which host the screenings. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the Caribbean culture on your luxury holiday in St.Barths.

Bastille Day – 14th July

Although officially a French public holiday, St.Barths celebrates Bastille Day in its unique Caribbean style to mark the day the Bastille was stormed and the end of the Monarchy.

Certainly one of the liveliest days of the year on the island, this is a great chance to celebrate with fireworks, dancing and fabulous food!

With a whole host of activities taking place on the island throughout the day there is plenty to see and do. To honor the event there is a ceremony at the war memorial in the morning but it is during the afternoon the festivities really begin. There’s a sailing regatta, a fashion show and many restaurants also offer special menus. Plus there are fireworks and dancing on the beach in Gustavia well into the evening. If staying in the area why not take in the view from your St.Barths luxury villa.
