World’s best new ski chalet: Chalet Alpaca, Meribel

One of the largest residences in Meribel and just completed for the 2017 season, it wouldn’t be an understatement to say that Chalet Alpaca is one of the best chalets in the Three Valleys. Put simply it ticks all the boxes for a luxury ski holiday and more, with every room and every nook and cranny having been designed with a meticulous eye for detail for the ultimate in cosy chic, alpine style.

As you take your first steps around this luxury ski chalet you won’t be surprised to hear squeals of delight from your little ones who have found their way into the beautiful cinema room, or perhaps the games area complete with pool table and pinball, to create their own ultimate den. Then there’s the rock climbing wall if a morning’s skiing hasn’t quite burnt off enough energy. It’s safe to say they certainly won’t be bored! You can even watch them splash around in the outdoor heated pool as you slip into the calming waters of the copper hot tub as you revive yourself over a glass of bubbly and fresh mountain air.

And when it comes to laying your head down for the night, each room is like your very own private retreat. Complete with private balconies and offering an air of calm, each bedroom is spacious and luxurious in every way, the master even has a fireplace and dressing area too. It may be difficult to drag yourselves out of the super comfy beds in the morning, but we’re sure the smell of freshly baked pastries and a freshly cooked hot breakfast will tempt you downstairs.

Bathed in natural light and with panoramic views over the valley, Chalet Alpaca is simply spectacular.

Austria’s best ski chalet: Chalet Uberhaus, Lech

Standing proud on the edge of the slopes, Chalet Uberhaus is like a piste-side paradise. With a true ski-in/ski-out location, the keen skiers amongst you will waste no time getting to the slopes in the morning. France’s best ski chalet: Chalet Grande Corniche, Les Gets

Chalet Grande Corniche is the ultimate blend of traditional meets state-of-the-art. Natural timbers and local stone weave their way around the chalet elegantly and features such as the glass staircase and vaulted wine cellar provide a sense of grandeur. Yet there is also plenty of fun to be had here. From getting a little competitive around the snooker table with friends and family in the evenings, viewing your favourite films in the cinema room, pampering yourself in the spa, watching the kids enjoy the ample toys, games, books and sledges on offer, or making use of the slide which runs from the bar down to the wine cellar when aching legs just can’t face the stairs.

Without doubt however, the pièce de résistance is the breath-taking outdoor infinity pool set amongst the snowy surrounds of the treelined mountains. With a glass-panelled edge, you get a real sense of being at one with nature here, and we can’t think of a better place for a spot of stargazing after dinner than from the accompanying hot tub.

Just an hour from Geneva yet freestanding with spectacular views in the charming Savoyard region, Chalet Grande Corniche is perfect for a private snowy retreat.

Italy’s best ski chalet: San Lorenzo Mountain Lodge, Dolomites

This luxury ski chalet is one of a kind. Harmoniously blending into the unspoilt forests of Val Pusteria, it was once a hunting lodge dating back to the 16th century. As you are guided around, you can’t help but feel the passion and love which has gone into restoring San Lorenzo lodge by its wonderful owners and hosts Giorgia and Stefano. Sharing their true passion for the lodge and the Dolomites, a warm welcome and true Italian hospitality await you here.

Whichever time of year you choose to visit, as you wander back into the chalet after a days skiing or perhaps after mushroom and wild berry hunting with Stefano in the summer, your senses will be enlightened by the aroma of wonderful home cooked meals. Ingredients don’t come fresher and are often sourced from the neighbouring farms. Wine is a passion here too and something that the hosts are very proud of, you’ll be guided around the wine cellar with its original stone walls and wooden roof, introducing you to a collection of over 1500 wines and the unique flavours of the region.

The chalet itself eludes charm at every turn and you’ll notice the attention to detail in the custom made traditional wood furnishings, quality of the fabrics, and elegance of design. The dramatic views over the valley are best enjoyed from the dreamy outdoor whirpool in the private garden and if that’s not enough there is also a Finish sauna and Turkish bath with chromotherapy.

This luxury chalet truly is the perfect spot to get away from it all and enjoy good times with friends and family.

Canada’s best ski chalet: Bighorn, Revelstoke

After winning this award for the 5th year in a row, if its not already, Chalet Bighorn should definitely be on your bucket list. Sitting at the base of the Revelstoke Mountain, it’s unmistakable. A chalet of epic proportions, space is taken to another level in its triple height living area with roaring fire at its centre.

With windows all the way up, as you can imagine the views are unparalleled. Don’t be fooled though, warm tones envelope this luxury ski chalet throughout offering a cosy and welcoming feel.

Known as the heli-skiing capital of the world with over one million acres of cat and heli-skiing terrain, of course Chalet Bighorn has its own private helipad too. It would almost be a crime not to make the most if it and glide through some of the best powder skiing there is in Canada.

When you’ve had your dose of fresh snow and mountain air, there’s plenty on offer back indoors. From the indoor pool, outdoor hot tub and spa to the games room, cinema room and bar, however in our opinion you can’t beat a nightcap from one of the stunning terraces to round the day off!
