Top 5 Scenic Ski Runs

bt1 bt3

Expansive views of snow-covered mountain tops, a vista down into a valley or skiing through the trees; the beautiful scenery found in the mountains is an integral part of the ski holiday experience.

Cruise down these scenic runs and soak up your surroundings, stop regularly on the side of the piste to take a photo with your group or simply to take a moment to admire the view.

Here are some of the most scenic ski runs in Europe...

1. Chaux Fleurie, Chatel

Located in a quiet corner of Chatel, right next to Avoriaz, this is one of the prettiest areas of the Portes du Soleil. From the top of the Chaux Fleurie lift, drop down into Les Lindarets whilst you enjoy an amazing view of Lac Montriond and the village of Montriond further down the valley.

Chatel is a pretty Alpine village set in a beautiful valley within the vast Portes du Soleil ski area, encompassing the popular resorts of Morzine, Les Gets and Avoriaz. The extensive ski area has a range of slopes suitable for all abilities, from easy going beginner runs to exciting steep and fast descents.

The Epaule red run in Megeve can be reached by the Epaule chairlift and is a gentle red run following the ridge above Mont Joux with breathtaking views on either side throughout your descent. Here, you can experience unparalleled views of the spectacular Mont Blanc.

Megeve is widely known as a particularly elegant ski destination, with traditional Alpine architecture, plenty of fabulous luxury chalets and world class restaurants. Part of the Evasion Mont Blanc ski area, the resort is full of attractive tree lined slopes

3. Tufternkumme, Zermatt

Enjoy your morning cup of coffee or lunch on the terrace at the Fluhalp restaurant at Ruthorn 3103 whilst you admire the perfect view of the famous Matterhorn.

When you are ready, start your descent on the ‘Kumme’ blue run which eases you into the longer ‘Tufternkumme’ red run where you can enjoy spectacular views of the Matterhorn before you cruise down into the trees on the ‘Tuftern’ run.

The mesmerising views over the Matterhorn from the village and the ski areas make Zermatt a particular favourite. The car free village is full of interesting boutiques and gourmet restaurants. The extensive and high ski area covers three major areas and links to Cervinia on the Italian border.

4. Combe de la Saulire, Courchevel

If you are staying in Couchevel or Meribel, head straight up to the top of Saulire after breakfast to avoid the crowds. This run is best experienced on fresh corduroy before the rest of the resort arrives so once you have taken in the 360-degree view at the top you want to be one of the first ones down.

The red run has a rather steep and narrow start but soon opens out to a glorious descent to carve up whilst you enjoy the view.

Courchevel is made up of a series of villages, including the prestigious Courchevel 1850 which is home to many of the world’s most spectacular ski chalets. A modern lift system whisks you up to 600+ km of pistes, connecting you to several other resorts such as Meribel and St. Martin de Belleville within the vast Les Trois Vallees ski area.

Avoid the busy red ‘Face’ run under Les Lanches chairlift and cruise down Genepy, a long, friendly blue piste leading to Tignes Val Claret. The run has beautiful and expansive views over the mountain tops of the Espace Killy as it winds down into the valley.

Tignes is part of the world class Espace Killy ski area, home to over 300 km of slopes and encompasses the glamorous resort of Val d’Isere. As one of the highest resorts in the Alps, you can expect fantastic snow conditions throughout the season.
