Destination Guide: Stuben
Stuben has become known as the powder capital of the Alberg ski reason. With an average of 12 meters of snow each season and the access to some of the best known off-piste skiing in Arlberg, we can see why it has retained this title. It also boasts an impressively long season running from mid December right up to early May, as many pistes being above 2500m.
Stuben is the smallest of the five other Alberg ski resorts. Maintaining a traditional Austrian feel this picture perfect town is truly something special. Although not having as many facilities and amenities as the surrounding villages, Stuben has a charm and atmosphere that is hard to beat.
This resort is fantastic for intermediate skiers and all off piste powder lovers. However there are easy tree lined pistes for beginners to enjoy as well. With access into St Anton, St Christop, Lech and Zurs, there is something for everyone to enjoy whilst in Stuben.
It will take approximately 2 hours to get to Stuben from Zurich airport.
Best places to eat and drink in Stuben
Stuben has a smaller selection of restaurants to choose from than its neighboring resorts, but that does not mean quality is compromised. There are 2 fantastic restaurants in the village itself.
Firstly, The Apres Post Hotel, which has a large sun terrace for you to enjoy a drink after a day on the mountain, as well as the Postamt Restaurant which serves traditional Austrain cuisines as well as other international dishes using regional ingredients.
Secondly, head to The Old “Mondschein Restaurant”, which is known for its high standard of cuisine. This restaurant has been popular for many years, attracting Luis Trenker and Hannes Schneider in their breaks during the making of the legendary film “White Noise”.
For a piste side stopping point, The Gasthof Berghau is an authentic Austrian restaurant and is found on the left after the church as you approach the village from the Albona chairlift.
