Courchevel 1550, also known as Courchevel Village, sits above Courchevel Le Praz (1300), but below Courchevel 1850, and Courchevel Moriond (1650) offering great access to higher resorts if staying in a luxury ski chalet in Courchevel 1550.

Courchevel is home to some of the very best luxury ski chalets and is certainly one of the most glamorous resorts, attracting a well heeled clientele. The resort is part of the enourmous 3 Valleys ski area (the largest ski area in the world with 600km of pistes). Courchevel 1550 offers a quieter and more relaxed luxury ski holiday than 1850, great for families.

Destination Guide: Courchevel 1550

About Courchevel 1550

Quieter and less glitzy than the other Courchevels, 1550 (known as Courchevel Village) in the 3 Valleys is popular with families for its peaceful atmosphere and good-value-for-money luxury ski chalets.

There’s a small ski area just above the village but the location also has easy access to Courchevel 1850 via a gondola and chair lift and blue runs back into the village, as well as a few red and green runs and a luge run that starts at 1850 and goes back to 1550, which is floodlit in the evenings. There are several ski schools in operation here, making it a good choice if you have beginners in your party.

For those looking for a quitier luxury ski holiday, Courchevel 1550 is much more calm than the rest of the 3 Valleys by evening, though it doesn’t lose too much as a result. Those with children might well appreciate not being woken late at night by those out partying, yet getting over to the bars and restaurants of 1850 and 1650 is fairly easy. You feel like you’re off the beaten track a bit in a luxury ski chalet, yet are located really conveniently, just a gondola away from the action.

Getting There:

Grenoble and Champery airports are less than 2 hours’ drive away. Geneva airport is 2.5 hours’ drive away. There is also an altiport at Courchevel 1850.

Best places to eat and drink in Courchevel 1550

The sunny terrace at La Table des Flocons is a great place to enjoy lunch, and is right on the slopes. Carnivores are sure to love L’Oeil de Boeuf, a Courchevel Village institution. This family-run restaurant at the foot of the piste serves up fantastic steaks and joints cooked on an open fire and proffers a very warm welcome, too. A great option for those staying in a self-catered luxury ski chalet.

There’s not a huge culture of late-night drinking in the Village itself, though there are places you can stop by for a nightcap if you wish. The vodka bar, Le Caterail is often open late for drinking and dancing, and the bar at Les Flocons (see above) is also a lovely spot for an evening drink. For a big night out, you’d do well to head to 1850 or 1650 in the 3 Valleys – The Fire and Ice Bar at La Portetta at Courchevel 1650 is particularly worth a visit when on a luxury ski holiday here.

Best time to visit Courchevel 1550

Courchevel 1550 in the 3 Valleys is open from the middle of December to late April.
