Destination Guide: Austria

About Austria

Simply put Austria has it all and more, from quaint picturesque villages to exclusive resorts and brilliant après, to skiing for all abilities, plenty of summer activities as well as a warm welcome that you just cant beat. Overall Austria offers better value for money than the more popular resorts in France and Switzerland, yet often exceeds service standards. Whatever you are looking for on a luxury chalet holiday, you are likely to find it in Austria.

Firefly Collection has a fantastic range of luxury ski chalets in Austria, from cosy alpine retreats to highly glamorous ski chalets such as Severin’s The Alpine Retreat in Lech, offering state-of-the-art technology and heavenly spa facilities.

During the winter months, the world class skiing on offer pulls in the crowds to Austria. The Arlberg ski area (one of the largest linked areas in the world) is characterised by high sunny bowls and varied terrain. Home to the popular resorts of St.Anton, Lech, Zurs, Stuben and St.Christoph the slopes offer diverse runs for beginners and the more advanced. There are 200km of off-piste to enjoy on a luxury ski holiday here as well as deep snow ski runs and racing circuits.

Perhaps Austria’s most famous ski resort, St.Anton is as well known for its lively après as it is for it’s skiing. Party until the early hours in bars such as ‘The Mooserwirt’, or for a quieter night head to a cosy bar in St.Christoph.

Lech and Zurs nearby offer their own traditional charm; with good links to St.Anton they offer a family friendly atmosphere alongside an array of upmarket luxury ski chalets and hotels.

For non-skiiers most of the Austrian ski resorts offer plenty to do for those not rushing down the pistes. Kitzbuhel has charming cobbled streets lined by designer boutiques, elegant bars and restaurants, as well as a casino and a 16th century local museum. Spas are also high on the agenda at many of our luxury ski chalets for those who want to simply relax.

With such a varied landscape, Austria offers plenty to do during the summer months. White water rafting, canonying and cycling are just a few of the activities on offer, when staying in one of Firefly Collection’s luxury summer ski chalet rentals.

Best places to eat and drink in Austria

The Austrians take their food and drink very seriously. Often traditional in style Austrian cuisine lends itself to hearty meals to warm you up after a day on the slopes, such as the local dish of Goulash. Offering great value, the service and hospitality in Austria is some of the best in the Alps.

Stay in one of Firefly Collection’s luxury ski chalets with private chef and be greeted with delicious gourmet meals each evening, making the most of seasonal ingredients.

Renowned for their cakes and pastries, a luxury ski holiday in Austria would not be complete a slice of warm apple strudel or their famous Sacher Torte, both of which can be found in most cafes and restaurants.

There are plenty of mountainside restaurants to stop for lunch, particularly in Kitzbuhel; the Panorama Alm offers plenty of alpine charm, an outdoor terrace and robust meat dishes.

Best time to visit Austria

Austria offers something for everyone to enjoy on a luxury chalet holiday all year round.

The ski season varies depending on the height of resort, but can run from the beginning of December until the end of April. Lech in particular benefits from a fantastic snow record.

The best time to stay in one of our summer chalet rentals in The Alps is from April to October, with temperatures peaking in July and August.

What we love about Austria

We love the fantastic ski terrain and warm hospitality.

Luxury Ski Chalets in Austria

The very first après ski bar opened in Austria in 1974. But there’s more to Austria than bier and glühwein (that’s beer and mulled wine, if you haven’t dusted off your German dictionary recently).

It’s fair to say that the skiing also takes centre stage. Choosing a luxury ski chalet in a top ski resort such as St Anton, Lech, Zurs or St Christoph affords you access to the world famous Arlberg ski area. It’s a vast, supremely linked ski zone with piste options for all skiers, whatever their level of expertise.

When you’re not snowbound, you’ll find plenty to amuse you here. You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to cosy mountainside restaurants offering warming menus.

‘Chocolate box’ pretty villages with snow-covered roofs, exclusive boutiques and friendly bars complete the quaint picture.

St Christoph is a little known delight – a little village offering a cluster of fine hotels, restaurants and luxury ski chalets. The vibe is very much laid back chic and as it’s located high up – at 1800m – you’re pretty much assured excellent snow conditions for your luxury ski holiday.

Then there’s the ski resort of St Anton, which enjoys a car-free main street – perfect for leisurely strolls, especially for families with small children. Fabulous restaurants and a legendary après ski scene rub shoulders with classic Austrian cafes offering delicious pastries and mugs of piping hot chocolate.

Upmarket Lech is loved by snow hounds for its superb skiing. All levels of skier are catered for. If you’re a proud foodie, you’ll love exploring the 50 plus restaurants in Lech during your luxury ski holiday.

The smaller village of Oberlech is a little bit higher up the mountain above Lech and offers ski-in/ski-out access to its stunning luxury ski chalets.

Ski-in/Ski-out chalets in Austria

Antique wood, natural stone, one-off designer pieces and muted tones create a chic, eclectic vibe.

First class service is the norm at this luxury catered ski chalet. You chalet host will be on hand to see to any queries or requests.

At mealtimes, gather around the dining room’s table. Don’t worry about lifting a finger in the kitchen. Your private chef will do all the hard work, creating exciting meals from varied menus – all accompanied with excellent house wines.

On less formal evenings, you can grab a snack in the spacious eat-in kitchen. And if you just want to chill out after a busy day on the slopes, grab a blanket and hunker down in Chalet Skyfall’s inviting cinema room. And….relax.

There’s certainly plenty of space for you all to spread out and enjoy the hammam, bar, library, private cinema room and wine cave. Impeccable service throughout your stay completes the picture.

When you can bring yourself to venture out of your heavenly hideaway, you’ll find the bars, boutiques and excellent restaurants of Oberlech and Lech moments away.

Chalets with Swimming Pools in Austria

Chalet Ariane, St Anton

A classic Alpine exterior makes way for a chic contemporary interior at this luxury ski chalet to rent in Austria. Part of the larger Chalet Eden Rock, the apartment Chalet Ariane offers guests access to a shared swimming pool, steam room, sauna, gym and beauty rooms. If R&R is top of your list during your luxury ski holiday in Austria, you’ll find what you’re looking for here.

Located in the exclusive Nasserein area of St Anton, the chalet is well positioned for convenient access to the lifts and the resort centre.

Contemporary styling and muted grey tones set the relaxed vibe, complimented by antique wood and slate.

You will be sure to relax during your stay at this luxury catered chalet. Your private chef will rustle up delicious canapés and four-course meals for you to enjoy around the stylish dining table.

You can round off your evening by taking a nightcap on the peaceful balcony or down in the communal bar area on the ground floor. It’s the ideal spot for discussing the day’s action and making the plan for the next day’s skiing before retiring to your luxury en-suite bedroom.

Chalet Artemis, St Anton

Modernists, listen up! Classic Alpine styling is forgotten at this luxury ski chalet to rent. Instead, you’ll find modern stylings and minimalist cool. So it’s goodbye Alpine-style wooden beams and twee furnishings and hello to contemporary furniture, edgy lighting and original art.

Sprawled over 500 square metres, this luxury catered ski chalet with swimming pool offers plenty of space for large groups.

There’s certainly space for you and your gang to spread out and enjoy the six en-suite bedrooms, open plan living/dining area and excellent wellness area on the lower floor.

The spa area offers an 8m swimming pool with jet stream flow, indoor and outdoor hot tub and a sauna and steam room. There is also a private massage room – the ideal place to sort out those aching ski legs.

When it’s time to gather en masse, the lift will whizz you up to the sitting room where you can lounge by the log fire and enjoy canapes and fizz before dinner.

The chef will create a tailored five-course meal, washed down with wines from the impressive cellar, as night falls.

For the ideal way to round off another perfect day, head to the 12-seater private cinema. It even boasts a popcorn machine, if your appetite allows.

Chalets with Hot tubs in Austria

Lodge Christophe, St Anton

One of four modern luxury catered ski chalets created from an old sawmill, there’s a real sense of history at Lodge Christophe. It’s wonderful to see a traditional work place transformed into a glamorous living space. The location is lovely too. This peaceful nook of Stadle at the top of St. Anton is perfect if you want to get away from it all.

Sleeping eight in the chalet, you can book the adjacent chalets to accommodate larger parties up to 36. The long shared balcony is ideal for alfresco drinks with the gang.

But rest assured that Lodge Christoph offers privacy and solitude as an individual residence too. Cool contemporary stylings are peppered with luxe fabrics.

After a day’s skiing, take a soak in the hot tub before enjoying your delicious dinner prepared by chef.

The cosy living area has vaulted ceilings and an open fire. And being close to the centre of St. Anton means you can wander home from its famous nightlife.

Luxury Ski Hotels in Austria

Severin’s The Alpine Retreat

A brand new luxury ski hotel, The Alpine Retreat is offered either on a suite by suite basis as a boutique hotel with nine suites, plus a spectacular ‘owner’s apartment’ which sleeps 8. Alternatively it could be rented on an exclusive-use basis for groups of up to 32 people.

Uber hip, this luxury ski chalet hotel in glamorous Lech has been styled by international design guru Reinhard Strasser and furnished by the Italian studio, Minotti.

Reclaimed Tyrolean wood and a typically Alpine copper roof combine with unique furniture and contemporary art works which are regularly changed, making the property a ‘rolling gallery’.

After a day on the slopes, the state-of-the-art spa and fitness area will be calling you.

You can make the most of the swimming pool, two saunas, steam room, gym and treatment rooms.

The Alpine Retreat boasts its own fine dining restaurant and atmospheric bar too where you can gather with the rest of your group for an après ski drink.

Dedicated staff are at your beck and call so all you have to do is relax.

Catered Ski Chalets to Rent in Austria

Chalet Almajur, St Anton

It may look like a classic Austrian Alpine cottage, complete with picket fence and nestled between pine trees. But once you set foot inside Chalet Almajur, you’ll find yourself in a haven of contemporary style.

This luxury ski chalet is one of the oldest buildings in St Anton but it’s been transformed into a thoroughly modern residence. It is the perfect combination of old and new. Roof beams, floorboards and fireplace create a cosy feel but you can enjoy mod cons including wifi and cinema room.

It is just a 3 minute walk from the Nasserein ski lift, and a 10 minute walk to town, although with the driver service, you’ll never have to walk.

There’s a dedicated team of staff including a housekeeper and a concierge service. They’ll see that every request is met, whether you’d like them to source a particular vintage wine, or booking the best table at that mountainside restaurant you’ve heard about.

Your chef can prepare a child friendly early supper before the main event – your gourmet dinner. Then why not help yourself to a nightcap from the complimentary drinks tray.

But with a complimentary ski instructor on offer for the first 2 days of your stay, you’ll need a good night’s sleep. That will hardly be a challenge in one of Chalet Almajur’s peaceful en-suite bedrooms.

Chalet 1597, Lech

Staggeringly, this immaculate luxury ski chalet was first built in 1597 (the clue’s in the name!). Yet 400 year old Chalet 1597, situated in effortlessly cool Lech, has been brought up-to-date with every luxury. Granted, it’s been painstakingly restored, extended and redesigned but you get a real sense of the quaint history of this original village house.

You’ll certainly make some of your own precious memories here too. Chalet 1597 in Lech has five spacious bedrooms and ample living space.

Wood panelling, antlers, antiques and original artworks complete the homely, chic ambience.

Enjoy a glass of something fizzy by the wood-burning Stube or grab a few hours of ‘me time’ in the impressive cinema room.

Your chef will prepare sumptuous meals for you and your party while you explore the private stone wine cellar and tasting rooms, guided by your knowledgeable hosts.

When you’re not gliding down the glamorous pistes of Lech, make sure you spare some time to experience the spa here at this luxury catered chalet.

There’s a bio-sauna and crystal-hung shower. Two hours of expert massage are complimentary during your stay along with two days of private ski instruction. All you have to do?  Make sure you savour every moment.

The ground floor houses this luxury ski chalet’s sumptuous spa zone, with sauna, hot tub and relaxation area. As a guest at Chalet Laurus, you’ll also enjoy access to the indoor swimming pool in the nearby Hotel Laurus 100m away.

Yet it’s the unique touches which set this luxury ski chalet apart. The hand-painted fireplace, carved wood panels, ornate chandelier and splashes of unexpected colour lift the spirits.
