Skiing in Courchevel 1550
There’s a small ski area just above the village but the location also has easy access to Courchevel 1850 via a gondola and chair lift. A choice of blues, red and greens will lead you back into the village, as well as a luge run (toboggan) that starts at 1850 and goes back to 1550, which is floodlit in the evenings.
There are several ski schools in operation here, making it a good choice if you have beginners in your party. A large ESF meeting point makes getting going in the morning very straight forward and stress-free.
Meribel, Val Thorens, La Tania and Saint Martin de Belleville are just four of the other resorts that make up the 3 Valleys ski area. With over 600km of well-groomed pistes, it can be very proud of being one of the world’s largest ski areas. This should ease any concerns about Courchevel 1550 being too small a resort – with the 3 Valleys on your doorstep, rest assured you’ll have more than enough to do.
Things to Do in Courchevel 1550
One of Courchevel 1550’s main attractions is the Aquamotion leisure centre. Appropriate for all ages, there are water slides into the large swimming pool, Jacuzzis, saunas, and a spa menu with plenty of tempting treatments. Just a 2-minute walk away from the centre of Courchevel 1550, Aquamotion is a fantastic alternative for any non-skiers in the group.
As briefly mentioned above, there is a great (and long) tobogganing track running all the way from Courchevel 1850 through the trees down into Courchevel 1550. It is completely free to use and is quite a thrilling experience! Another lovely experience is ice skating around Christmas time – there’s a really magical feel about a ski resort at Christmas.
If tobogganing isn’t adrenaline inducing enough, there’s a variety of excursions up for grabs including skidoo rides, heliskiing, paragliding and hot air balloon rides.
Best Places to Eat and Drink in Courchevel 1550
The sunny terrace at La Table des Flocons is a great place to enjoy lunch and is right on the slopes. A very reasonably priced menu and a clear view of the kid’s ski school meeting point makes for an excellent spot for parents to re-energise.
Carnivores are sure to love L’Oeil de Boeuf, a Courchevel Village institution. This family-run restaurant at the foot of the piste serves up fantastic steaks and joints cooked on an open fire and proffers a very warm welcome, too. A great option for those staying in a self-catered luxury ski chalet in Courchevel 1550.
There’s not a huge culture of late-night drinking in the Village itself, though there are places you can stop by for a nightcap if you wish. The vodka bar, Le Caterail is often open late for drinking and dancing, and the bar at Les Flocons (see above) is also a lovely spot for an evening drink. For a big night out, you’d do well to head to Courchevel 1850 or Courchevel 1650 in the 3 Valleys where you won’t be short of a good watering hole before retiring back to your luxury ski chalet in Courchevel 1550.
