Èze is one of the most spectacular settings for a luxury villa holiday on the French Riviera. Rising steeply above the Mediterranean between Nice and Monaco, the village is famed for its medieval lanes, dramatic clifftop position and far-reaching coastal views. Luxury villas in and around Èze take full advantage of this remarkable landscape, with infinity pools, expansive terraces and secluded gardens overlooking the sea. With Monaco close by and some of the Côte d’Azur’s most celebrated beaches, restaurants and harbours within easy reach, Èze offers privacy without sacrificing access to the Riviera’s most glamorous addresses.
Spectacularly situated atop a hill 1400ft above sea level, it’s no wonder the enchanting village of Eze has some of the best bird’s-eye views of the Mediterranean Sea stretching as far as the eye can see. Dating back to medieval times, the now charming hilltop was once a fortified stronghold, and whilst these days it is more synonymous with bright, boutique art galleries and quaint al fresco cafes clinging to balconies overlooking the French Riviera, nods to centuries gone by can still be found amongst the labyrinth of streets that ascend and descend throughout Eze.
A solitary church clock tower and terracotta-tiled chateaus are seemingly supported by a forest of trees that sprawl up the hilltop, so even from a distance, many point in the direction of Èze and make it the destination of the day. Picking a luxury villa in Èze means every day the extraordinary village is on your doorstep to explore.
Enthralling architecture and café au laits await in cliff-edge cafés, and a luxury villa holiday in Èze offers a retreat where time slows down – perfect for when you don’t want your holiday to end!
A maze of stooping stone archways and slanting cobbled streets means there are new discoveries round every corner, but none as surprising as the Jardin Exotique d’Èze. Caves, cascades and cactus plants that wouldn’t be out of place in the desert make for an unusual botanical garden, scattered with castle ruins for an extra sprinkle of juxtaposition. For those wanting to stretch their legs, the Nietzsche patheze mountain path, rewards those taking on the somewhat challenging hike to the village with sea views around each turn.
If you prefer hot days with temperatures in the high 20°Cs, June through to September are the perfect months for a villa holiday in Eze. At its peak, May and October can also experience temperatures in the low 20s, and are great months to visit to avoid the crowds. The spring month of April is very pleasant indeed, offering the perfect warm weather to wander the castle remnants and botanical garden.
Whilst the pièce de resistance of Èze is without a doubt the hilltop, at sea level the Èze-sur-Mer strand is a little secluded beach where you can walk along the pebbles and dip your toes in the Med. We love how you can split your day between beach bliss and people-watching in the characterful village.
Eze is situated between the glitzy glamour of Monaco and the coastal town of Nice. Nice Côte d’Azur airport is only a 30-minute drive away. However, it is worth noting the very centre of Eze village is pedestrianized and best explored on foot.
An al fresco terrace with jaw-dropping sea views, Michelin-recommended gourmet cuisine and retractable floor-to-ceiling windows to invite the French Riviera into the low-lit, elegant interior are what make Chateau Eza Restaurant the most sought-after dining spot in Eze. Dine inside the 400-year-old chateau on the delicious degustation menu or sample the sea from the La Mer section of the varied menu.
For equally spectacular vistas to accompany lunch, Restaurant Les Remparts serves up traditional Mediterranean fare, dished up with the heady smells of the surrounding jasmine and budding bougainvillaea. In the same setting, you will find Le Café du Jardin, a garden in the sky offering up light lunches or a cocktail at sunset.
