Elegant, idyllic and beautifully located, the term ‘villa’ really doesn’t do justice to this luxury holiday home in Provence. Le Mas de Chabran really is the stuff dreams are made of.

A characterful house with its roots in 18th century olive oil milling, architects and interior designers have brought this property to life with a mix of old and new and an outstanding ability to make the most of every bit of history steeped in the stone walls.

High-ceilinged reception rooms are decked out in pale stones, rustic woods and textural French linens for an airy, laid-back feel with a hint of ‘chateau’ about it in the elegant lighting, art and furniture.

In each of the eight neutrally decorated bedrooms, light is allowed to pour in and make the most of the rustic detail. Each bedroom is a little haven of its own with WiFi, flatscreen TV, as well as minibars or Nespresso coffee makers and refreshments.

If no holiday is complete for you without a little pampering, make the most of the sauna in the villa’s spa, as well as the fitness suite and the massage room and yoga or meditation classes.

But it’s outside that really is the icing on the gateau for us. Overlooked by a millstone, in a nod to the property’s history is the stunning heated (May to September) swimming pool. Then there is also the tennis court, fountains and formal gardens to meander around in the cool of the evening, olive trees, lush forests, swings, log cabins and even a sanctified chapel… Le Mas de Chambran is the piece of paradise you’ve been looking for.

Location

This luxury Provence villa is located in Maussane-les-Alpilles, just outside the beautiful village of Les Baux-de-Provence, in the heart of the Alpilles, close to Avignon. The villa is set in sprawling gardens where you can enjoy a peaceful and totally relaxing break.

Avignon Airport (6 kilometers away) is the closest airport and Marseille airport is 70 kilometers away. If traveling by private jet, land at the airports of Nîmes, Aix or Avignon, and then arrive to the Mas by helicopter as it can be arranged to land in the fields nearby.

Gare d’Avignon train station is 18 kilometers away.

Eating

Le Mas de Chabran is offered on a bed and breakfast basis and each morning you’ll wake to a delicious breakfast buffet, so you can grab a light meal and head out to explore, or linger over several courses as the sun starts to warm the gardens. Fresh food is in abundance here. You are welcome to pick your own fruit and vegetables and collect fresh hens’ eggs each morning. And of course, there are plenty of local specialities to be picked up in the markets at the nearby towns and villages so you can cook up a Provencal storm in the evenings.

If you prefer to eat out, the area has several fabulous restaurants, including a good handful with Michelin stars. Among our favourites are L’Ousteau de Beaumaniere and L’Aupiho, both restaurants where you can enjoy Provencal style menus with an exciting twist.

Kids

Little ones are made very welcome at this luxury, family-friendly villa in Provence, from the moment they step through the front door and are handed a kit with colouring set to keep them amused while you get settled in and staff are always on hand to help. Children are sure to be enchanted by the magical setting of the house, where there are simple pleasures for everyone to enjoy.

Tiny chefs might like picking produce from the veg patch and collecting the eggs each morning from the chicken coop. Little adventurers will love playing hide and seek all around the gardens or taking a Camargue safari or a boat trip with their parents. And kids of all ages are certain to spend lots of time in the wonderful heated swimming pool.
