Les Bords du Lac, in Hossegor, not far from Biarritz, is a traditional-looking luxury French villa, just a stone’s throw from the ocean. But step through the doors of this beautiful building and you step into contemporary California. A vibrant colour palette, an eclectic mix of antique and modern furniture and plenty of fun, surf-themed artworks bring a bohemian style that makes everyone feel welcome. From the living room with deep pink seating, jade-hued ceiling and cosy fireplace… to the light, bright dining room with its refectory-style table, this is a villa unlike any other.

With its arched windows and huge island, the kitchen is a wonderful place to cook, eat and gather. We love the ‘epicerie’, the villa’s own interpretation on a mini bar, with its shelves of local produce, fine wines and treats. Whether you’re cooking for yourselves or enjoying being looked after by a private chef, this is the place to gather for a glass of wine and some bonhomie in the evenings.

But as well as being a very sociable property, there are also plenty of quiet spaces to relax in Les Bords Du Lac, Hossegor. From the TV room to the light, bright library, where both the coffee and the books are on tap.

Six comfortable and stylish en-suite bedrooms (and a seventh kid’s room) are each individually designed, so whichever you’re in will have its own quirks and treats. All seven are stocked with luxury bath products and bed linen, too. Three of the main rooms are found in the conciergerie, just a short distance from the house, making them ideal for grandparents or anyone requiring a little distance from the activities of the main house.

The outdoor spaces are more than a bit magical, too. The location of Les Bords Du Lac, Hossegor, really sets this luxury villa apart from others. Perched on the western bank of a lake, and with access through a private gate to the stunning Blanche (White) Beach, there are many places to dip your toes in the water.

Beautifully designed gardens mean there’s always somewhere to relax alone or gather with friends, from the drinks cabin (or plancha) with small bar set up, the shady pool house with outdoor shower and wicker furniture looking out over the private swimming pool, and the petanque terrain, which is always ready for a game. Or simply wander through the pergola terraces, soaking up the views.

Location

Perched on the edge of a lake, behind a pine forest, and with direct access to the Blanche Beach, (home to the famous Club des Pingouins children’s club) this luxury holiday villa near Biarritz is perfectly placed. The beautiful and cultural town of Hossegor is just five minutes away by bike and the sea is a 10-minute walk away. Guests of Les Bords du Lac will have use of the villa’s electric car during their stay.

The nearest airport is 35 minutes away at Biarritz, where there is also a TGV train station.

Eating

A delicious breakfast is served each morning in your villa, which is always something special. The breakfast menus are very creative and usually include a little surprise.

Throughout the months of July and August, six out of seven days, your talented chef will prepare a scrumptious lunch or dinner to your preference. The chalet has a stunning dining room as well as an outdoor dining space in the shade on the pergola terrace.

On chef’s day off and if you don’t fancy cooking, you’ll be spoilt for choice when eating out, too. Hossegor has a fabulous restaurant scene, including some Michelin-starred establishments, and other more laid-back eateries and beach clubs. Biarritz is just over half an hour away if you wish to spend an evening there.

Kids

Les Bords du Lac is a family-friendly villa in the south of France where there’s something for all ages.

Kids will love the easy access to the beach and lake and the heated private swimming pool and there’s so much space to play in the lovely gardens, including a dedicated outdoor play area and a petanque field where they can practise their boules. Teens will be impressed by ‘The Garage’ which has been converted into a den with canoe, paddleboard and skate equipment that are free to use whenever they like. Surfing lessons can be arranged, as well as a raft of other organised activities including paddle classes, horse-riding and golf. On rainy days or evenings, they can escape to the TV room with Apple TV, Disney+ and a gaming console for games championships.

The dedicated kids bedroom sleeps three and is kitted out with toys, books and an amazing Lego wall. Four of the kingsize rooms can also be configured as twins to allow more children to share.

For those travelling with babies and toddlers, everything you need can be arranged, from change tables and high chairs to cots, toddler crockery and baby-friendly toiletries. Nannies and babysitters can be hired on request.
