What was once the holy hub for a congregation of local farmers and villagers is now the perfect luxury villa in Umbria for socialising as a family. This 14th century church has been exquisitely restored and converted into a 4-bedroom villa with character and style aplenty.
The church’s original terracotta floors, wooden beams and exposed stonewalls have been preserved wherever possible, giving a sense of the building’s history. On the other hand, light white walls and the plush soft furnishings, with their pretty floral patterns and bright colours, soften the spaces and ensure the villa now feels warm, welcoming and contemporary. The large, open-plan living and dining room which is just off the bright and airy family kitchen is a particular highlight, as is the separate, vaulted-ceiling living room, which was once the chapel.
Echoing the pretty floral patterns inside, the villa’s gardens are brilliantly colourful. Bright fuchsia and green ivy crawls across the authentic stone exterior, and the gardens are full of leafy trees and potted plants. From the swimming pool and its surrounding terrace, enjoy uninterrupted views across the estate’s forested hillsides, or relax on the spectacular decked viewing platform and look out for birds or watch the fiery orange sun set over the valley.
There are several al fresco dining spots, so you can enjoy your breakfast, lunch and dinner outside and each with a different view.
Being located on the vast estate means Villa San Savino is situated just 10 minutes from the lovely Il Caldaro restaurant, and only 2 minutes from the nearest grocery store. You can also enjoy a huge range of activities and foodie delights on the estate itself.
The nearest village, Pierantonio, is only 10 minutes away and has a good choice of shops and restaurants.
If you’re looking for big city fun, Florence is just under a 2-hour drive away, while Rome is slightly further afield, reached in a 2 hour and 30 minute drive. Both cities have airports with good flight connections.

If dining with a view is important to you, then this is the villa for you. The serene countryside location offers dramatic views across the estate, which are best enjoyed at sunset from the garden’s decked dining area. There are also two other dining terraces, one sheltered by the villa and just outside the living room, and another in the garden, outside the kitchen. There is a barbeque for relaxed family dinners and the airy kitchen is a chef’s paradise.
For a day off cooking, the estate has a traditional Umbrian restaurant called Il Caldaro, or there is a more relaxed Orangerie Bar which serves drinks and nibbles throughout the day. The estate owners can also arrange for chefs to come into your villa and prepare a meal for you, even at breakfast time.
Foodies might also like to take advantage of the villa’s setting and enjoy a wine tasting or cooking class on the estate. Of course, since you’re in Italy, there are always plenty of lovely local restaurants within a short drive too.

Thanks to the villa’s spacious gardens and swimming pool, families looking for a place to simply relax and unwind together will love Villa San Savino. While mum and dad catch up on some R&R from the sun loungers, the kids can splash away in the pool or play games in the gardens.
The multiple dining areas are also great for families or groups of friends with older children, who might prefer to have their own ‘kids only’ dinner party. Similarly, the multiple lounge areas inside the villa mean children can get stuck into a film on the Sky TV, while parents relax with a drink in another room.
For those travelling with teeny-tinies, cots and highchairs are available on request. Importantly, the garden is fenced, but does have several levels and some sheer drops, so those under 5 will need to be supervised.
