Perched high on a cliff above Salema Beach, the property has impressive views to the east and west for sunrise and sunset Instagram moments and a rooftop terrace that’s the envy of all its neighbours.

Up on the roof, an infinity swimming pool surrounded by palms looks straight out over the ocean – it’s like sea swimming but with all the comforts you could wish for. Nearby is an outdoor dining area, where you can enjoy a morning coffee as the sun starts to hit the sea, or sip sundowners while you get the barbecue on. And there are plenty of sun loungers where you can lie in the sunshine or shade with a good book accompanied by the sounds of the ocean.

Inside, the villa has been carefully designed to create a modern and minimalist feel where the sea can be the star of the show. The interior is decorated in coastal whites and blues with light flooding into it from every angle. A spacious living room has a flat-screen TV and  capacious sofas and armchairs looking out to sea so you can always find a little shade in the air-conditioned rooms in the middle of the day, and there’s a dining area to seat eight should you prefer to eat inside or get a showery day. There’s something special about watching a thunderstorm over the sea from the comfort of indoors, too!

Each of the cool and airy bedrooms has its own flatscreen TV should you want to escape for a little peace and quiet in the evenings. If you’re lucky enough to bag the master bedroom you can also enjoy a steam bath and standalone bath tub with panoramic views of the water. With crisp, cotton sheets and lots of little luxuries to make your stay special, we can’t think of anywhere lovelier to get a great night’s sleep.

Location

Villa Alegria is a luxury villa in the Algarve, perched on a cliff overlooking Salema Beach. Its terraces have panoramic ocean views as well as views of the coastline, the village and fishing boats bobbing on the sea, and it’s just 50 metres’ walk down to the beach.

It’s just over 100km to Faro and 20km to Lagos and there’s a golf and tennis club with spa just 2.5km from the villa, too.

Eating

This luxury villa in the Algarve is situated in an area renowned for its fabulous food, and you’ll be able to make the most of all that’s on offer with the villa’s well-equipped kitchen, kitted out with Gaggenau appliances, including American fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, hob, coffee-maker and more, as well as the all-essential wine fridge.

Outside, there’s a charcoal barbecue so you can enjoy alfresco dining in the evenings.

You’ll find a welcome hamper of local goodies waiting for you when you arrive, including red and white wine, beers, soft drinks, mineral water, tea and coffee, sugar, seasonal fruit and olive oil. Enough to get you started while you find your way to the shops and delis.

If you prefer, a private chef can be arranged to cater for you during your stay.

The area has a wonderful food scene though, with lots of great eateries in nearby Salema. We love Lourenco for its amazing seafood dishes and Agua Na Boca for its stylish atmosphere and wonderful menus – one of the best restaurants in the Algarve. And of course you mustn’t leave without a trip to Guia to try its famous Piri Piri chicken.

Kids

Children of all ages will be enchanted by the magical location of this luxury villa, with panoramic views of the ocean.

Just 50 metres from the beach, it’s a dream spot to stay in, and you can have your toes in the sea within minutes of leaving the house.

The interior is well-designed for children, with plenty of space to play in the modern and minimalist shared spaces. The large outdoor terraces with loungers and outdoor living and dining spaces is sure to be popular with young people, too.

The villa has its own bikes so the kids can take off on their own adventures within the safety of the gated community Villa Alegria sits within.

But the real jewel in the crown here, as far as kids are concerned, must be the beautiful, private infinity pool where children can splash happily all day in the sunshine.
