Low season is usually early/mid-December, mid-January, and summer.
Mid season is usually early February, March and April.
High season is usually Xmas, New Year and mid/end February.
Villas in Europe
Low season is usually April, May and October.
Mid season is usually June and September.
High season is usually July and August.
Villas in the Caribbean
Low season is usually June to November.
Mid season is usually November to mid-December and mid-April to June.
High season is usually mid-December to mid-April.
Just 75 minutes from Geneva Airport, Les Gets is one of the most accessible ski resorts in the Alps, making it perfect for families keen to keep travel time short, as well as for long-weekend breaks when every hour on the slopes counts.
With excellent ski schools, nursery slopes and a range of non-ski activities for children, as well as a whole host of family-friendly luxury ski chalets, Les Gets is ideal for parents who love skiing and are keen to pass this love on to their children.
Unlike some other French ski resorts which consist of ‘70s purpose-built apartment blocks, Les Gets’s village is made up of chocolate box Alpine chalets. Hence, the picturesque town is a favourite for those seeking charm, comfort and easily accessible skiing.
The luxury chalets in Les Gets are typically sophisticated and refined yet welcoming, reflecting the cosy and relaxed atmosphere of the village itself.
Although Les Gets is well-loved, nearby Morzine often attracts more of the peak-season crowds. As a result, Les Gets can feel a touch more relaxed during the busy periods such as Christmas, New Year and the February school holidays, while still offering easy access to Morzine’s fantastic slopes and town.
Again, much like Morzine, Les Gets is a fantastic choice for a luxury mountain holiday any time of year. As well as its popular ski season, Les Gets has a buzzing summer scene offering extensive road and mountain biking, particularly along with lift-accessible hiking routes too.
It’s traditional chalet architecture and old Savoyard atmosphere make it a particularly picturesque choice for a luxury alpine escape.
Les Gets is part of the expansive Portes du Soleil ski area, which links 12 ski resorts and around 650km of pistes across France and Switzerland under the same ski pass. Though it is the largest ski area in France not every sector is fully ski-linked. Nevertheless, there are smooth transport links with buses between the resorts and land-trains in Morzine and Les Gets to make getting between the ski lifts straightforward.
Because Les Gets’ village sits just below the treeline, many of the runs above weave beautifully through the forest. The two main ski sectors accessed from Les Gets are Chavannes and Mont Chéry, each with a slightly different feel:
The main family and beginner area, with most ski schools meeting here due to the gentle runs, nursery slopes, drag lifts, and the Mappy’s beginner zone at the top of the gondola.
Though Chavannes is especially well suited to beginners, stronger intermediates will also find plenty to enjoy. There’s a good mix of red runs stretching towards the Nyon side, several snow parks and off-piste (particularly La Rosta bowl).
A quieter area better for intermediates as it consists of more challenging red runs. This side of Les Gets has exceptional views over the village and the Mont Blanc massif.
A larger part of the Portes du Soleil is easily reached from Morzine. From the Super Morzine or Prodains lifts, you can head towards Châtel, Avoriaz, and even over for a Swiss fondue on the slopes. Therefore, some of our favourite luxury chalets in Les Gets also offer a 24/7 driver service across Les Gets and Morzine, making it even easier to make the most of the vast ski area. We also offer a range of luxury chalets in Morzine if you think this area might be preferable.
Many people planning a luxury ski holiday in Les Gets choose to self-drive too which also gives flexibility to explore the wider Portes du Soleil area.
There’s plenty to do in Les Gets when off the slopes, including snowshoeing, dog sledging, hiking trails, paragliding, and Nordic skiing. There are also helicopter tours or hot air balloon rides available. Or, for an adrenaline rush, there’s a luge down the mountain that’s open all year round.
Les Gets’ centre also has a good selection of local shops and a weekly farmers’ market every Thursday.
Unique to Les Gets is the Alta Lumina, a 1km immersive night walk through the forest lit up by different sets, lights and music. This too is open all year round and is great for all ages.
Yes. Although a smaller town, there is still après ski in Les Gets. Bar le Barbylone (Ba Bar) at the foot of the slopes is the go-to place after a day’s skiing. For a step into Canada or Australia, there are the themed bars Black Bear and Le Boomerang which are also lively spots.
Into the night, the Igloo Chalet Club is small, but good fun. Plus, it was the first dance hall/nightclub in a French ski resort.
In mid-March, there’s the Rock the Pistes festival across the Portes du Soleil, with several of the stages on the Chavannes side of the ski area. Therefore, a luxury ski holiday to Les Gets around this time adds a livelier atmosphere to the mountain before you can head back to your relaxing luxury chalet.
Les Gets village sits at 1,172m, so later in the season, the lower slopes aren’t totally reliable. However, higher-altitude skiing is easily accessible in the wider Portes du Soleil area, especially up above 2,000m in Avoriaz.
In Les Gets itself, it is well set up for its lower altitude, with the beginner areas mostly at the top of the Chavannes gondola rather than the base, like most ski resorts.
The best times to visit Les Gets for the best snow conditions would be January or February. Let us know, and we can show you some of the best luxury chalets in Les Gets for your preferred dates.
As well as luxury catered chalets, we offer a range of luxury self-catered apartments in Les Gets, as there are several strong dining options in the village and on the mountain.
In town, our top pick is La Fruitière des Perrières, which makes its own dairy and cheeses, so it is a great place for a fondue, raclette or even topped cottage cheese for dessert.
On the mountain, La Grande Ourse is another favourite. In the winter months, there’s a roaring fire, and in the spring, the terrace is ideal for a sunny lunch. Their French / English fusion cuisine is also available in the evening, with a piste-basher taking you up for the five-course chef-selected menu.
Neither resort is necessarily better than the other. It really depends on what kind of trip you want! Les Gets is the right choice if you prefer a quieter, more traditional and walkable village. On the other hand, Morzine may suit best if the group wants a busier town and more central access to the wider Portes du Soleil area every day.
We find in practice that the best fit often comes down to the property itself. We would be happy to help you choose the right luxury chalet for your trip.
