Courchevel 1550 Resort Guide

Courchevel 1550 is part of the enormous 3 Valleys ski area; the largest ski area in the world with 600km of pistes. Staying in a luxury ski chalet in Courchevel 1550 offers a quieter and more relaxed ski holiday than in Courchevel 1850, so is great for families looking for quick and easy access to the whole ski area.

Courchevel 1550 is popular with families for its peaceful atmosphere and better value-for-money luxury ski chalets. Although Courchevel 1550 is calmer than the rest of the 3 Valleys by evening, getting over to the bars and restaurants of 1850 and 1650 is fairly easy, being just a short drive up the mountain.

You feel like you’re off the beaten track in your luxury ski chalet in Courchevel 1550, yet conveniently located just a gondola away from the action. It’s definitely a ski resort in France worth visiting!

What We Love About Courchevel 1550

The huge 3 Valleys ski area offers hours on end of mountain exploration, whilst your luxury ski chalet in Courchevel 1550 provides that peaceful escape away from the noise at the end of the day.

With everything you could need on a ski holiday in the village, Courchevel 1550 is the perfect French ski resort for groups looking to enjoy the neighbouring vibrant villages with the luxury of retreating to a slightly more laid-back setting.

When to Visit Courchevel 1550

The ski season in Courchevel 1550 runs from mid-December to mid-April.

Getting to Courchevel 1550

Geneva airport is 2 hours 10 minutes’ drive away. Grenoble and Lyon airports are approximately 2 hours drive away. Chambery airport is 1 hour 20 minutes’ drive. Moutiers rail station is also just 30 minutes’ drive.

There is also an altiport in Courchevel 1850, with the world’s shortest runway, for those travelling by helicopter or private jet.

Skiing in Courchevel 1550

There’s a small ski area just above the village but the location also has easy access to Courchevel 1850 via a gondola and chair lift. A choice of blues, red and greens will lead you back into the village, as well as a luge run (toboggan) that starts at 1850 and goes back to 1550, which is floodlit in the evenings.

There are several ski schools in operation here, making it a good choice if you have beginners in your party. A large ESF meeting point makes getting going in the morning very straight forward and stress-free.

Meribel, Val Thorens, La Tania and Saint Martin de Belleville are just four of the other resorts that make up the 3 Valleys ski area. With over 600km of well-groomed pistes, it can be very proud of being one of the world’s largest ski areas. This should ease any concerns about Courchevel 1550 being too small a resort – with the 3 Valleys on your doorstep, rest assured you’ll have more than enough to do.

What to Do in Courchevel 1550

One of Courchevel 1550’s main attractions is the Aquamotion leisure centre. Appropriate for all ages, there are water slides into the large swimming pool, Jacuzzis, saunas, and a spa menu with plenty of tempting treatments. Just a 2-minute walk away from the centre of Courchevel 1550, Aquamotion is a fantastic alternative for any non-skiers in the group.

As briefly mentioned above, there is a great (and long) tobogganing track running all the way from Courchevel 1850 through the trees down into Courchevel 1550. It is completely free to use and is quite a thrilling experience! Another lovely experience is ice skating around Christmas time – there’s a really magical feel about a ski resort at Christmas.

If tobogganing isn’t adrenaline inducing enough, there’s a variety of excursions up for grabs including skidoo rides, heliskiing, paragliding and hot air balloon rides.

Best Places to Eat and Drink in Courchevel 1550

The sunny terrace at La Table des Flocons is a great place to enjoy lunch and is right on the slopes. A very reasonably priced menu and a clear view of the kid’s ski school meeting point makes for an excellent spot for parents to re-energise.

Carnivores are sure to love L’Oeil de Boeuf, a Courchevel Village institution. This family-run restaurant at the foot of the piste serves up fantastic steaks and joints cooked on an open fire and proffers a very warm welcome, too. A great option for those staying in a self-catered luxury ski chalet in Courchevel 1550.

There’s not a huge culture of late-night drinking in the Village itself, though there are places you can stop by for a nightcap if you wish. The vodka bar, Le Caterail is often open late for drinking and dancing, and the bar at Les Flocons (see above) is also a lovely spot for an evening drink. For a big night out, you’d do well to head to Courchevel 1850 or Courchevel 1650 in the 3 Valleys where you won’t be short of a good watering hole before retiring back to your catered luxury ski chalet in Courchevel 1550.

Luxury Ski Chalets with Outdoor Hot Tubs in Courchevel 1550

Possibly one of the most sought-after aspects of any luxury ski chalet is an outdoor hot tub. After a day tearing up the mountain, there’s no greater joy than jumping in the warm bubbles with a cold beverage and a gorgeous view.

Some of our favourite luxury ski chalets in Courchevel 1550 more than tick that box! When it comes to outdoor wellness facilities, Chalet Le 1550 gives guests the full works with not only an outdoor hot tub, but a barrel sauna and a large fire pit. Architects and interior designers have had a field day with this luxury ski chalet, giving it a truly unique flair and aesthetic. Walking into this chalet, you instantly feel relaxed with the calming colour scheme and minimalist style and that’s before you’ve even made use of its extensive spa offerings.

Chalet Ikamiut offers something a little different both indoors and outdoors. The interior décor with an eclectic mix of quirky artwork, vibrant patterned flooring, and bespoke furniture. Step out onto the terrace of your self-catered luxury ski chalet in Courchevel 1550, and you’ll be greeted by a beautiful Nordic bath with snow-covered pine trees as your backdrop.

Your dream luxury ski chalet in France is well within reach and we are certain our collection will fulfil even the toughest of criteria!

Luxury Bed & Breakfast Ski Chalets in Courchevel 1550

We are all familiar with self-catered and catered luxury ski chalets but what if you don’t quite want one or the other? Bed & Breakfast ski chalets are a fantastic middle ground for guests who want to experience the restaurants by night but also be catered for in the mornings within the chalet.

Often mornings can feel quite rushed on a ski trip, particularly if you have children getting ready for ski school. Taking breakfast off the ‘To Do’ list makes the whole thing less of a palaver and you can actually get ready at a leisurely pace.

Chalet M and Chalet S are two sister luxury bed & breakfast ski chalets. Both in similar style, they bridge the gap between contemporary and traditional. The exterior of the chalets are wooden clad giving them a real sense of character, whilst inside, the slick furniture and décor ooze opulence.

Each morning, a daily continental breakfast will be laid out so that everyone can fuel up ready for hitting the slopes. Only 100m from the centre of Courchevel 1550 and 200m from the ski lifts, you’re in the thick of it ready to enjoy the famous 3 Valleys ski area.
