St Martin de Belleville is one of the later developed luxury ski resorts and has only been on the piste map since the 1980s, when chairlifts linked it to Mèribel and Les Menuires. Since then, it has developed significantly.
Fortunately, it missed the concrete, brutalist phase that some other French ski resorts passed through in the 70s. Hence, it’s retained its traditional Savoyard style as it developed, with luxury ski chalets thoughtfully designed with stone and wood exteriors, many from renovated old farmhouses.
With the 3 Valleys ski area on your doorstep and several luxury ski chalets to choose from, St Martin de Belleville makes the perfect, peaceful base for a luxury ski holiday. It’s especially appealing if you want to escape the crowds but still enjoy some of the best skiing in the Alps.
Since St Martin de Belleville is relatively small, many luxury ski chalets have great locations like the ski-in/ski-out Chez Bugi, which sits right on the snow front or Le Chalet and Chalet Constania, which are only a couple of minutes’ walk from the slopes and centre of the village.
As St Martin de Belleville flourishes into a top luxury ski destination, the development of luxury chalets has expanded into the neighbouring hamlets of Villarabout and Saint-Marcel. Here we offer a select number of luxury chalets, such as sister properties Aralia and Aphylla, both of which offer access to driver services for easy access to the slopes and village.
St Martin de Belleville is a fantastic choice for a food-driven luxury ski holiday. Despite its small size, the village is home to an impressive selection of restaurants. This combination of exceptional gastronomy and authentic alpine character is part of what makes it so distinctive.
Just outside the village is La Bouitte; a two-Michelin-starred restaurant known for sophisticated dishes built around local produce, with around 80% local ingredients. This model really reflects the village’s strong local identity, even as St Martin de Belleville becomes increasingly popular as a luxury ski holiday destination.
For diners staying in a luxury chalet in St Martin de Belleville, La Bouitte offers a complimentary shuttle to and from the village.
Another standout option is La Table du M at M Lodge Hotel, serving Mediterranean-style cuisine with South American and Asian influences. Certainly, don’t skip dessert, as the pastry chef used to work at the two-Michelin-starred Le Chabichou in Courchevel 1850.
We offer the luxury chalets Pure Black and White Crystal, where chalet guests can enjoy the exceptional half-board service in the chalets, but with a chef’s night off to explore the restaurants in St Martin de Belleville too.
Some of the other top restaurants in St Martin include Au Torè or on the mountain, there are several standout options such as Maya Altitude, Simple & Meilleur Bistrot de Montagne
Staying in a luxury ski chalet in St Martin de Belleville puts you in the heart of the Three Valleys, giving you fantastic access to one of the largest ski areas in the world.
The Three Valleys ski area boasts over 600km of slopes all linked through high-speed, modern lifts. With green, blue, red and black runs, plus off-piste opportunities, it caters to every level of skier.
For groups of mixed abilities, skiing between the Three Valleys can be done solely on blue ability slopes. Therefore, the whole, wider ski area is accessible for all abilities.
If you’ve previously stayed in Méribel or Courchevel, a luxury ski holiday in St Martin de Belleville offers a quieter base with easier access to the higher-altitude areas of Les Menuires and Val Thorens.
The skiing around St Martin de Belleville is some of our favourite in the Three Valleys. The pistes around St Martin de Belleville are wide, rolling and confidence-boosting blues and reds. These are ideal for improving your carving, building speed control, and simply enjoying relaxed, scenic cruising.
Because of the location at the more open end of the Belleville Valley with a south-facing aspect, the village and slopes are particularly sunny and make for lovely warm afternoon skiing.
A highlight is the blue Jerusalem piste, which is the longest run in the Three Valleys from the Tougnette ridge right down to the village. It is one of the best-known and loved pistes in the Three Valleys and encapsulates everything to skiing in St Martin de Belleville: gentle gradients, plenty of sunshine and beautiful views across the valley.
So, if you want the endless Three Valleys ski area on the doorstep of your luxury ski chalet, without the hustle and bustle of its major resorts, St. Martin de Belleville is a great choice, especially if you are seeking a more peaceful stay than the larger resorts of Courchevel or Méribel.
Due to the layout of the piste map, it looks lower, but St Martin de Belleville sits at a relatively high altitude of 1,450m, the same as Méribel Centre. Similarly, it offers fast lift access across the Three Valleys ski area, which has over 80% of runs above 1,800m. It also has easy access to Les Menuires and Val Thorens (the highest altitude ski area of the Three Valleys).
Absolutely. St Martin de Belleville is a fantastic option for a luxury alpine retreat as it’s a charming village for quality time with your partner, family and friends. While it offers fewer non-skiing activities than larger luxury ski resorts, there are scenic walking and cross-country trails. In 2025, a new wellness centre opened with an indoor/outdoor pool, saunas, jacuzzis and cold plunges. Plus, Les Menuires is only a 10 to 15 minute drive away and has a multi-purpose sports centre offering more activities.
Après-ski in St Martin de Belleville is more relaxed than in larger neighbouring resorts such as Méribel, Val Thorens and Courchevel, but there are still some great spots.
Le Lodji, right on the snow front, is perfect for a post-ski drink, while Pourquoi Pas (nicknamed P Bar) and La Dahlia are seasonnaire favourites with friendly pub atmospheres for casual drinks and live music into the evening.
If you want to indulge in an afternoon of après-ski while on a luxury ski holiday to St Martin de Belleville then Roc 7, located above Les Menuires, is a great place for a long, vibrant lunch. Like a less eccentric La Folie Douce but with all the same liveliness and energy. Expect tasty, quality food followed by live DJs and dancing on tables into the afternoon as the sun sets.
A luxury chalet stay in St Martin de Belleville is a lovely holiday for all. Nevertheless, in our 15+ years of arranging the best trips to the area, we find it especially popular with family groups, especially those with young children learning to ski.
A luxury ski holiday to St Martin de Belleville is also a top pick for foodies as the gastronomy scene is excellent and skiers who want to cover plenty of ground in the Three Valleys while returning to a quieter, more refined base.
You’ll love St Martin de Belleville if you value the charm of a relaxed, authentic French village combined with the quality expected from a high-end ski holiday.
