Nestled neatly between the mountainous Swiss border and the fertile plains of Lombardy in Northern Italy, Lake Como has been synonymous with exuberant luxury and breathtaking scenery since the Romans. Just 25 miles from Milan, this mesmerising glacial lake is one of the deepest in Europe, and its unique microclimate offers mild winters and dazzling Mediterranean summers.
The lake’s shore is peppered with stunning historic villas, huddled villages and beautifully landscaped gardens, which offer plenty of cultural and culinary distractions. Elegant Riva launches cut across the azure blue waters, taxiing visitors to the traditional lakeside towns of Bellagio, Como and Varenna.
The lake is shaped like a wishbone, with the small towns of Bellagio, Menaggio, and Lierna at the intersection of the three branches of the lake. A triangular taxi boat service operates between these, allowing you to hop between them and soak up the atmosphere.

Como is the largest city on the lake’s shoreline and is a must-see! There is a real sense of history in this gorgeous Italian city, and we would really recommend going to visit the famous 14th-century cathedral. It has stunning medieval carvings, and you can even climb the cathedral’s dome to get a panoramic view of the city.
Castello Baradello is another great spot to take in the breathtaking views, and again is filled with rich Medieval history. Just be warned that the castle intermittently closes, so check before you go!

The medieval town of Lierna rises from the Eastern shore, the famous castle ‘Castello di Vezio’ and its white sandy beaches make this charming historical town a must-see. For culture vultures, head to the world-famous ‘Villa Carlotta’ to marvel at the magnificent botanical gardens and artistic masterpieces.
Coined the “pearl” of Lake Como, Bellagio is an absolute favourite amongst travellers when it comes to beauty and charm. You could spend a day walking down the cobbled streets, taking in the stunning houses with colourful balconies and shutters.
If you want to get the below “insta-worthy” shot, walk up Salita Serbelloni until you reach the viewpoint on Via Giuseppe Garibaldi. You’ll get to enjoy the lake views through the quaint Italian street.

The breathtaking vistas and sheer serenity of Lake Como make this the perfect location to relax and escape the strains of modern life. So we have hand-picked a selection of the finest luxury lake-side properties to ensure you have the perfect place to rest your head.
Exploring the lake could not be easier for those staying in the fabulous Villa Josephine, as this property comes complete with a private boat and boat operator moored on the lakeside jetty. With five-star service, a private spa and sweeping botanical gardens, just one word sums it up – blissful.
Wherever you choose to stay, rest assured that you’ll be in one of the world’s finest, most desirable and unique properties.
