Between Méribel and Courchevel, La Tania is part of The 3 Valleys ski area in France.
Built in 1992 to house press for the Winter Olympics, La Tania’s core was an array of wooden-clad apartment blocks. However, in the decades since, it’s blossomed into a more well-rounded ski resort with more luxurious accommodation alongside easy access to world-class skiing.
La Tania is purpose-built and quieter than its neighbours, with a handful of lovely restaurants and bars making it a fantastic family-friendly destination with no compromise on the quality of the skiing.
It’s served by green, blue and red runs into the village, which encapsulates how the resort is well designed for all abilities. Further up the mountain, there’s a wider range of blue, red and black runs, as well as links to Courchevel and Méribel, in just two lifts, on blue runs. A luxury chalet in La Tania is a perfect base to explore the neighbouring resorts, as all corners of the huge ski area are easily accessible from here.
With such an enormous ski area at your fingertips, there are plenty of runs for all levels of skier, from gentle, wide-open cruising blues to challenging blacks and punishing moguls. There is so much to choose from, enough to keep most skiers occupied for their whole career.
Over 85% of runs in the 3 Valleys are above 1,800 m, so the snow conditions are reliable, even later in the season. Plus, the lift system is quick and efficient, and there are plenty of snow cannons, so you can almost always find decent snow conditions. The lower slopes around La Tania are through the trees in the shade for much of the day, keeping the snow better for longer in the day and season.
In addition to snow-kept, groomed pistes, La Tania also has plenty of opportunities for those looking to explore the backcountry. The resort’s forested area is fantastic for off-piste runs through the trees, making it hard to do the same line twice. It really feels like a winter wonderland; hence, it’s affectionately nicknamed ‘Narnia’ by locals.
La Tania sits in the forest between Courchevel Le Praz and Méribel Village. As a result, the pistes in and around La Tania are beautiful, tree-lined runs. At 1,400m in altitude and with a North-facing aspect, La Tania is slightly cooler than Méribel and Courchevel, which helps hold the snow, especially later into the season.
The whole 3 Valleys ski area offers access to over 600km of groomed pistes, making it part of the largest interconnected ski area in the world. The slopes cater to all levels of skiers and snowboarders, with beginner, intermediate, and advanced terrain available. The whole area can be interconnected on blue runs, making it suitable for most abilities to explore the wider area and other great resorts nearby too.
On and off-piste, the forest cover makes La Tania a particularly good spot in poorer weather, where there’s still good visibility among the trees.
Plus, due to its purpose-built design, the tree-lined pistes are scattered with chocolate-box ski chalets, giving many of them fantastic ski-in/ski-out access.
As of 2018, La Tania was named the fifth Courchevel village rather than being its own stand-alone resort. This reflects its evolution into a luxury ski resort strong enough to go under the Courchevel umbrella, with the skiing, amenities and, of course, the luxury properties to match.
La Tania is especially known for sought-after ski-in/ski-out properties and an expanding collection of good-value luxury catered ski chalets. Being a lesser-known and low-key resort, La Tania also offers more affordable chalet options for those travelling on a smaller budget, particularly luxury catered chalets that offer fantastic value for money.
A couple of examples are Chalet Ecritoire and 3Sixty, two sister chalets that sit near the edge of the red Moretta Blanche piste.

Staying in La Tania is all about convenience, with ski school meeting points on the snow front just in front of the main high street with bars, casual eateries, shops, perfect for families wanting the easiest luxury ski holiday possible. Though not the most upmarket resort, convenience, ease and peace of mind are luxuries that La Tania capitalises on.
Due to its positioning, with three different grades of piste winding into the centre of resort with all the chalets and accommodation built between them, almost all our chalets in La Tania are within 70m of the nearest piste, if not ski-in/ski-out.
Many luxury ski chalets in La Tania come with driver services to make things even smoother. Courchevel 130 is only a 5-minute drive away from La Tania, so non-skiers might want a lift here to explore the more authentic village or have easy direct gondola access to Courchevel 1850, which offers a much more upmarket day out with designer shops and high-end eateries.

La Tania is especially well-suited for families and mixed groups, with something for all ages, thanks to the scale and variety across The 3 Valleys. La Tania stands out amongst other resorts for its easy access to a large ski area and ski-in/ski-out accommodation, both at attractive prices.
Many of the luxury ski chalets in La Tania are designed with mixed groups in mind, offering generous living spaces, private wellness facilities, and a fully catered service.
The resort also appeals to those seeking a more understated alternative to some of the Alps’ more overtly glamorous destinations. Compared with Courchevel 1850, La Tania feels more normal while offering high-quality accommodation, restaurants and skiing at more reasonable rates.
La Tania is a great pick for beginners. On the main snow front, there’s a well-sized beginner’s area that is separated from the main piste. Plus, there are a couple of magic carpets for those just starting. Nevertheless, it is particularly well suited for skiers progressing onto blue runs and building confidence, as access to Courchevel and the wider 3 Valleys opens up at this stage.
Since La Tania is a purpose-built resort, its shops, bars, restaurants, ski schools and accommodation are all designed around the skiing and snow front. This makes it especially convenient for parents looking for an easy, stress-free family ski holiday. The main high street in La Tania is pedestrianised, making for a friendly atmosphere too.
In La Tania, the ski season runs from early December to early/mid-April, with the most popular time to visit being the festive period and February Half Term. This is usually a strong season with fairly reliable snow conditions throughout, making it a great option for ski holidays all season long.
In neighbouring Courchevel and Méribel, the ski lifts tend to open a week earlier and stay running a week later. Less so due to the difference in snow conditions, but primarily since these are larger destinations that see more visitors at the tail ends of the season.

In December and January, the days are shorter, and the temperatures are lower, making for snowier conditions and cosy evenings in your luxury chalet around the fireplace.
As spring approaches in March, the days are longer still and the temperatures are warmer, but due to La Tania’s north-facing aspect the snow conditions are usually very strong still.
La Tania is a purpose-built ski resort designed around easy access from luxury chalets to skiing and resort amenities. Hence, it’s very popular with families and the perfect choice for a family ski holiday over Christmas, New Year, February and Easter.
If you want quieter slopes and shorter queues, January and March are the best months to plan for.
The months of December and January see the heaviest snowfall in La Tania.
The altitude and north-facing aspect of La Tania mean the snow coverage tends to be good right through to mid-April. This makes La Tania a reliable destination for ski trips throughout the ski season.
Unlike other resorts, La Tania’s microclimate often generates afternoon cloud, haze, and flatter light as temperatures rise throughout the season. Nevertheless, it still ‘feels’ sunnier in March than January, just likely not clear blue skies all day, every day.
The table below shows the average snowfall each month. Bear in mind that snow builds up over the season, so even though there is more snowfall early in the season, there is usually a deeper snow base in the mid-to-late season.

La Tania is well located close to the centre of The 3 Valleys, the largest interconnected ski area in the globe. It is widely regarded as one of the world’s best thanks to its immense scale and endless variety. The ski area links seamlessly with the well-regarded resorts of Courchevel, St Martin de Belleville, Méribel and Val Thorens, creating an extensive network of well-groomed pistes suited to beginners, intermediates, and advanced skiers alike.
La Tania and The 3 Valleys ski area offer high-altitude skiing, with 85% of the skiing above 1,800m and reaching an impressive 3,230m. As a result, visitors are confident they will find good snow conditions throughout the season.
Across The 3 Valleys, the lift system is incredibly modern and efficient, and has received significant investment over the years. Consequently, despite its popularity and the large number of skiers travelling to Méribel, Courchevel, and Val Thorens each day, The 3 Valleys handles crowds well, providing quick and easy access across the area.

With several shops located along the main snow front and high street, ski hire in La Tania is straightforward. With everything built around the slopes, easily located ski shops make it easy to ski in and swap equipment if conditions change or anything needs adjusting.
Ski Higher, also based on the snow front, also offers online booking, mobile service and in-chalet fitting, which is often the easiest option for guests staying in a luxury ski chalet. Alternatively, many properties provide driver services, so your chauffeur can take you to the ski shops if you prefer to arrange hire in person.
Renovation for the 26/27 season brings a new high-speed gondola to La Tania, bringing its initial lift inline with the modern and efficient infrastructure of The 3 Valleys and offering quick access to the surrounding runs.
Unless you are a less confident skier staying mainly within La Tania and Courchevel, it is usually worth paying a little more for the full 3 Valleys lift pass. Since Méribel is so easy to reach from La Tania, it adds a wider choice of terrain, scenery and ski routes to your holiday.
With the upgrade costing roughly €61–€70 for a six-day adult pass, we think the wider 3 Valleys access is well worth it.

Beginners can get to grips with skiing on the easy nursery slope directly in front of the village centre, where there are two ‘magic carpet’ ski lifts to make things easy for novices. Here you’ll find ski school options where it’s very easy to drop off any children and start your own ski day.
Opposite here is a line of eateries where parents can have a drink or quick bite while keeping an eye on little ones in ski lessons or playing in the snow.
Heading up the La Tania gondola, there’s then a green or blue run leading back into the village. The green Plan Fontaine piste is genuinely one of our favourites. It’s a gentle, winding, tree-lined piste with occasional glimpses of valley views through the forest.
Since the pistes leading into La Tania aren’t common runs for those staying elsewhere on luxury ski holidays in the 3 Valleys, they often remain underused and in great condition all season.
As the entire 3 Vallées ski area can be accessed via linked blue runs, La Tania is a fantastic base for intermediate skiers. Even if you are not the most confident, you can still cover plenty of ground and easily meet friends on the mountain for lunch.
The blue run leading into La Tania – Folyères – is well known for being a fun, rolling piste that’s tree-lined but with views out and down the valley. It’s great for learning to be more confident, picking up speed and is often quite quiet, making it an unintimidating experience.
La Tania and the vast 3 Valleys area, which offers 119 red and 33 black runs, are a perfect destination for advanced skiers. If you are someone who likes to cover the miles, it is the largest interconnected ski area in the world, so it really doesn’t get much better than here.
On the one side, you have Courchevel, and on the other, you have the Méribel Valley. Keep going up and over, and you’ll find the resorts of Val Thorens, Les Menuires and St Martin de Belleville. In total, there are 600km of pistes in The 3 Valleys ski area, so plenty of terrain for even the speediest skier.
Within La Tania itself, there’s fantastic off-piste found under the Dou des Launches chair, or there’s the mythical ‘Narnia’, which is the off-piste through the forest around La Tania and Courchevel Le Praz. Powder bunnies can lap this area without repeating the same line.

La Tania is a smaller village, so there isn’t quite the breadth of options that you would get in other destinations. However, it is incredibly quick and easy to get to the larger surrounding resorts, which have more amenities.
Though La Tania doesn’t necessarily spring to mind as an après-ski hot spot, as it grows in popularity, this mindset is certainly beginning to shift.
Le Ski Lodge is a fantastic bar in the heart of the village with live music most evenings and reasonably priced drink options. They are also known for serving up delicious burgers on the sunny outdoor terrace for a lunchtime bite.
La Taiga also has a lovely terrace that is particularly appealing in the afternoon sun during March and April. Or, there’s the 3* Hotel Montana, which has a good cocktail hour and pool tables for non-guests too.
For a more upscale time, Courchevel 1850’s Bagatelle is found at the top of the Chenus lift. From here, it’s possible to ski directly into La Tania without any lifts. Therefore, it’s a great choice for a long lunch and afternoon drinks.
Over in neighbouring Méribel, there is La Folie Douce and Le Rond Point (aka ‘Ronnies’ or ‘The Ronnie’), which are fantastic options for an afternoon of music, drinks and dancing on tables. If you’re staying in a luxury chalet in La Tania, you’ll have to head back for last lifts, or taxis from the centre of Méribel are readily available, and it’s only a 15-minute drive back round.
Even though La Tania is small, there are still a few good options for dining out, both up on the mountain and down in the village.
At the top of the La Tania gondola is the mountain restaurant Bouc Blanc, which has a fabulous large sun terrace. This is a great spot to bask in the sunshine and take in the view.
Down in La Tania, you’ll find options from low-key lunch spots by the piste for hungry skiers to cosy bistros serving Savoyard specialities. La Taiga is famous for its traditional raclette and fondue in a cosy setting with a bar downstairs; they often also have live bands and DJs.
When staying in a luxury catered chalet in La Tania, on the staff’s night off, try the fine-dining experience at La Farçon, which holds a Michelin star and serves creative Savoyard cuisine with modern seasonal influences. Chef Julian Machet also runs Bistrot Machet, a more relaxed high-altitude option that is ideal for lunch.
La Tania also has easy access, especially on skis, to Courchevel and Méribel. So, we recommend exploring the fantastic mountain restaurants for a lunch stop. La Soucoupe at the top of the Plantret chairlift is known for superb meats grilled over the fire and paired with fine wines.
La Tania’s small centre mostly consists of ski shops and a couple of places to grab a souvenir. Nevertheless, it has easy access to Courchevel 1850, where you will also find a wider range of designer stores, including Dior, Prada, and Chanel, to name just a few.
It is approximately a 20-minute drive from Méribel to Courchevel 1850, or it is a 5-minute drive or bus to Courchevel Le Praz, where there is a direct gondola (5-minutes) to 1850 centre too. For non-skiers looking for a day of shopping, a trip to Courchevel 1850 is a great option while staying in La Tania.
There are also shopping opportunities on the slopes for skiers, with designer pop-ups often on the Courchevel side of the ski area, just two lifts from La Tania. These change year on year, but previous years have featured brands such as Moncler and Louis Vuitton. The 3 Valleys has a regular schedule of winter events that add another layer of energy to the area.
Unique to La Tania is the Bouc Blanc Derby, which is in its early years but so far has been very popular and a great success for locals and visitors alike. The Bouc Blanc Derby is a ski/snowboard race that’s open to the public, with race suits banned and fancy dress encouraged. With a sectioned-off course running from the Eclipse piste down to La Tania, it has a steep and relatively technical descent.
Usually in March for the weekend it’s on the centre of La Tania is abuzz with drinks and food stalls in the centre and an awards ceremony into the evening.
Husky sledding is a wonderful way to enjoy the mountain air at a slower pace. It offers a different perspective on the scenery and makes a memorable activity for guests of all ages and abilities. It’s possible from Courchevel 1850 and Courchevel 1650, and can easily be arranged by your five-star hotel or luxury chalet concierge.
After a long day skiing, it’s perfectly fine to just kick back, relax, and get in the hot tub of your ski chalet. Of course, it’s just as fine to forego the skiing and spend the whole day relaxing in your own oasis among the snow. It’s your holiday; if you want to take it easy and read a book by the fire, that’s exactly what you should do.

If you just want a casual, free sledging session with young children, the centre of La Tania has a gentle slope dedicated to “bum boarding” and sledging after the ski pistes close.
Neighbouring Courchevel 1850 has a dedicated toboggan run that runs from the top of the Jardin Alpin gondola down to Courchevel Village. The run is 2km long and provides a thrilling ride through the forest. It’s also open in the evenings and is a great activity for families and groups of friends, and it’s sure to provide some unforgettable memories.
Snowshoeing is a great way to stay active and get some exercise while enjoying the winter wonderland that surrounds La Tania. There are several trails in and around La Tania; one of our favourite routes is up through the forest to Bouc Blanc restaurant at the top of the La Tania gondola. A gradual uphill climb, the snow-covered pine trees are incredibly beautiful and make you feel like you’re in a fairytale.
‘Parenting (ski paragliding) is very popular in The 3 Valleys. There’s a large launch point on the Loze ridge, at the top of the Dou des Launches lift, offer the chance to take off on skis or a snowboard and enjoy a remarkable aerial view of the mountains.
If you’re looking to take a break from the bustle of the slopes but keep on the winter wonderland theme, ice skating is a lovely activity. It is especially well suited to couples and families looking for a slower-paced activity. The large rink at Le Forum in Courchevel 1850 which is easily accessible from La Tania. This rink also hosts local ice hockey matches, which are great fun to watch.
For those looking to pamper themselves throughout the trip, there are several spas in and around Courchevel. In between Courchevel 1550 and 1650 is the Aquamotion centre, which has a large pool and other wellness facilities ideal for both adults and children. For something more intimate and upmarket, Le Chabichou Spa in Courchevel 1850 is excellent. They have a large sensory pool, hammam, rainforest shower, polar bath, salt grotto and more.
Everyone has different travel preferences, which can be heavily influenced by where you are travelling from. So we have outlined each of the major routes below. However, for most travellers, the recommended route is to fly into Geneva and then get an airport transfer by car up to the resort. This takes 2 hours and 30 minutes, and is a gorgeous experience in itself as you drive through some of the most picturesque valleys in the Alps.
La Tania is located between Courchevel and Méribel and is approximately 2 hours 30-minute drive from Geneva Airport. The closest major airport is Geneva Airport in Switzerland.

Notably, it’s faster to drive to La Tania from the nearby airports than to get the train to Moûtiers, assuming the traffic is on your side. But the train can be a better option if you want to travel more sustainably by avoiding flights.
There isn’t a train station in La Tania itself, but there’s a major station further down the valley in Moûtiers. Getting to La Tania from Moûtiers takes around 30 minutes by car.
There are several links to Moûtiers from major cities such as London (8 hours including 2 changes), Paris (4 hours direct in the winter season), Lyon (4 hours including 1 change) and Geneva (4 hours including 1 change).
La Tania is a town in the Tarentaise Valley in the Savoie region in the French Alps. La Tania sits at 1,400m, about a 30-minute drive up from the town of Moûtiers. You can get the train to Moûtiers, or La Tania is also easily accessible via road from airports in Chambéry, Geneva, Lyon and Grenoble.

Since La Tania sits close to the centre of The 3 Valleys, accessing the wider ski area is incredibly easy. With just two lifts, you can be skiing in Courchevel and Méribel (under 10 minutes). Four lifts will also take you to St Martin de Belleville and Les Menuires (around 45 minutes) where you can then go on to explore Val Thorens.
It is entirely possible to visit all the valleys in a single day, but not in much depth. The area is just so vast, many visitors return to the 3 Valleys year after year, and ski new pistes and even long-term seasonnaires still feel there’s more to discover.
There are several ski ‘challenges’ you can undertake while exploring The 3 Valleys. One popular option is to ski from one end of the area to the other, so from Courchevel 1650 to Orelle (the secret fourth valley). Others aim to visit every high point and/or every low point in the ski area in a single day. These challenges are a great way to explore runs you might not otherwise ski and to become really familiar with the wider 3 Valleys area.
