Châtel in France is a little know gem of a ski resort in the Abondance Valley, forming part of the extensive Portes du Soleil ski area which links with Avoriaz, Morzine, Les Gets and you can even ski into Switzerland. This pretty resort has a traditional alpine atmosphere and with so much skiing, there are endless options for all levels of skier, from the novice to the expert, making it a great choice for those with families and mixed abilities. There are also plenty of other non-skiing activities on offer in both winter and summer.
There are many restaurants both on and off the mountain, offering tasty food and warm Alpine atmosphere, and they are also very reasonably priced by comparison to other resorts.
Chaletneuf du Tenne, built in a prime position just above the resort, this newly built luxury ski chalet has fantastic views up and down the valley and also benefits from the option of skiing back to the door. Tastefully designed in keeping with the resorts traditional architecture but with a contemporary twist, this chalet has given attention to every detail. Perfect for families (sleeping 8 adults + 6 children) – it offers a good size indoor swimming pool and as well as the two spacious master suites, includes two family suites with fabulous children’s sleeping dens that double up as TV/DVD hideaways.
Also in Châtel is the stunning Chalet Blanche et Verte, sleeping 12, which offers a lovely open plan living space with breath-taking views of the valley below and is just a short stroll from the resort centre. The chalet includes its own cinema, swimming pool and children’s play room, which should keep you busy for that time spent off the pistes.
