Annabel Hunter, our Sales and Marketing assistant, has just returned from Zermatt. Take a read about the chalets that she thought were totally spectacular.
Arriving on the mountain train, you can see why Zermatt is home to the most photogenic mountain in the world and is a picture perfect town in its own right. This is Switzerland’s most famous resort, with the combination of fantastic skiing, a snow sure location and an Alpine chic town with narrow streets lined by chocolate box chalets. Hidden down winding streets are secret luxury chalets just waiting for your arrival, and I was truly taken with the gorgeous resort.
For something a little extraordinary, the ski-in/ski-out Chalet White Pearl was truly spectacular. With its combination of being fun and fashionable, whilst also being wonderfully cosy at the same time, this chalet, which is based in the ‘Beverly Hills’ of Zermatt, was hard to leave. Each room has been named after a famous pearl, but be sure to hop in the lift up to the top floor where you can bagsy one of the two vast suites with their own balcony that look straight out to the Matterhorn. We couldn’t think of a better view to start your morning, especially with a cup of coffee in bed. And after a day on the mountain you can relax in the amazing spa, or soak in the pool or even book in a massage from the talented in-house masseuse. This chalet has thought of all the little details that you would want from a luxury chalet and the staff are more than happy to help with any request you may have.
If you want to stay somewhere with a restaurant, bar and après scene all on your doorstep, whilst also having specular views of the valley and mountains, then I could not recommend Cervo more highly. Perfect for small and large groups, this group of chalets have ski-in access as well as spa facilities and much more. The large terrace surrounding the reception and restaurants area becomes an afternoon après scene, and later on in the evening, a cocktail lounge. With the sun shining and the music on, I could imagine never wanting the afternoon to end, only being encouraged to get out of my ski gear by the prospect of a delicious evening meal of local delicacies with a modern twist at the Cervo restaurant.
Chalet Les Anges is in the heavenly location of Zermatt’s Petite Village, which could not be more fitting to the chalet’s name, with Les Anges meaning Angels. However, nothing about this chalet is petite like its location suggests. This huge, light and spacious chalet will feel like you’re in a personal boutique hotel. With a world-class chef ready to make anything you could desire, an extensive wellness centre and even a grand piano in the top-floor lounge everything has been designed with luxurious comfort in mind. And the views are second to none, wonderfully framed through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
And finally, the chalet to beat all chalets… Chalet Zermatt Peak is like nothing you could ever imagine. Every detail impresses and the interior design is one of the slickest in the Alps. No expense has been spared to create something really extraordinary. Entering through the tunnelled rock, I felt like I was coming into a secret lair, a little bit like a top-secret bond girl. You’re greeted by the highly attentive staff, with chalet slippers to place onto your feet and your belongings swiftly being taken to your room, you can then take the lift up to the open plan lounge and look down at the whole of Zermatt below you. With arguably some of the best views in Zermatt, especially for the New Years Eve fireworks display, you will feel like you own the resort. And you can’t talk about Chalet Zermatt Peak without mentioning the astounding wellness area on the ground floor. This spa area has glass walls, so you can have amazing views whilst relaxing, an indoor-outdoor Jacuzzi, and a new Chanel therapy room.
And if you are looking for somewhere to rest your legs and have something to eat whilst up the mountin be sure to stop off at the ICE pizzeria on the Klein Matternhorn side. It’s the perfect mid point for skiers and non-skiers to meet up at mid day.
