Description

A beautiful combination of traditional and modern, Chalet Banja provides a wonderful base for a luxury ski holiday in Zermatt for up to eight guests.

Careful thought has gone into the design, with bold furniture pieces, antiques and artworks creating a stylish and eclectic look. There are plenty of nods to tradition here, with the typically Alpine design of the building, yet the traditional is complemented by contemporary style, in the light woods and slate used throughout, and the sleek silhouettes of the fixtures and furnishings. Natural light floods into the interiors from the roof lights and floor-to-ceiling windows during the day and by night, the rooms are lit by cosy chandeliers and statement lighting.

The huge living and dining space is centred around a large wood-burning fireplace, providing a warm an cosy atmosphere. An L-shaped sofa and casual seating gathered around the fire is the ideal spot to relax together before dinner, aperitifs in hand, or settle down in the armchair by the bookshelf for some quiet reading time alone. The dining table in the kitchen, provides the perfect place for your party to gather and enjoy leisurely meals as well as the opportunity to chat to your chef as he prepares your meal. Additionally its a great spot to have a peaceful breakfast while enjoying the view.

On snowy afternoons, pad down to the wellness area to maintain your fitness levels in the gym area or alternate a few lengths in the swimming pool with sitting poolside, good book in hand, on luxury loungers and maybe a sauna or two. You can take life at Banja as slow as you like – there’s a definite emphasis on relaxation here.

Before you turn in for the night, to comfy bedrooms all equipped with cable TV and spa-style ensuites, pop out onto Banja’s terraces to take in the mountain air and see the Matterhorn at its very best, looming out of the darkness under the stars.

Location

Banja is a luxury ski chalet in Zermatt, set in the sought-after Winkelmatten area.

Since the village is car-free you’ll arrive at Banja by train or taxi. The property is a five-minute walk from the Matterhorn Express gondola and for most of winter, you can ski back to within 100 metres of the door.

The village centre, with its plethora of shops, bars and restaurants, is just a 15-minute walk away and there is a shuttle bus that stops almost outside the property.

Geneva airport is a three-hour drive away or four hours by train. Private transfers can be arranged.

Eating

Gourmet foods and fine wines are both pillars of life here at Chalet Banja. Each morning you’ll find a delicious breakfast waiting to fuel you for a day on Zermatt’s slopes and when you return from your skiing day, afternoon tea is all laid out for you to enjoy by the fire as you warm yourselves through.

In the evenings, your chef will serve aperitifs and canapés while preparing a four-course dinner for you all. A children’s tea can be provided for families, and your chef will be happy to discuss any dietary needs your party has and create menus that work around them.

House wines are served with your evening meal and beers, spirits, soft drinks and mixers, as well as hot drinks, are available.

If you’re eating out, the Waldhaus restaurant is just across the road from the chalet, but Zermatt is renowned for its diverse food scene. To enable you to make the most of it, Chalet Banja has a catered evening meal on just four evenings, rising to six at peak weeks. The property can also be hired on a bed and breakfast or self-catered basis if you prefer.

Kids

This luxury, family-friendly ski chalet in Zermatt has been carefully designed to work with family life. The open-plan living spaces leave lots of room for children to play and there is also a quad bunk room with its own TV that younger visitors will love to make their own.

Kids of all ages will love the 10-metre swimming pool in the wellness suite on the ground floor – the perfect place to work off any energy that’s left after a day in ski school.

During school holidays, Banja’s evening catering increases from four evenings a week to six, making life a little easier for parents of young children. Your private chef will be happy to serve a kids’ tea in the early evenings, with dishes designed to appeal to younger palates.

Nannies and babysitters are available on request and cots and highchairs are available if required.
