Description
There are stylish European villas, and then there are properties that are simply a bit more special than any other. This luxury villa in Umbria is one of the latter.
Villa Paradiso is a simply stunning grand house nestled in the Umbrian hills amid acres of undulating olive groves. With its impressive shuttered façade and typically Italian terracotta roof tiles, it is picture-postcard-perfect as you approach.
A strong sense of history pervades the every wall and column of this fabulous building. Originally the site of a castle, there are still traces today of the ninth-century building that was eventually destroyed in 1400. The present building was built in the early 17th century by the Pianciani family.
The U-shaped building encloses a sunny courtyard at the rear with shaded colonnades, so whether you’re a sun worshipper or fancy a bit of cool relief in the heat of the day, you’ll always find the ideal spot to retreat to with a good book and a long, cool drink.
Keen walkers will find plenty to explore in the groves and hills surrounding the villa. The area has been declared a site of special interest by the EU, due largely to the wildlife that can be spotted in the hills opposite the villa, including wolves, wild boar, roe deer and porcupines.
The interior is classically beautiful, with artworks and frescoes bringing style and colour to a traditional Umbrian palette of warm, neutral shades. Everywhere you go, ornate details and impressive stone features draw the eye. Visually, the house is a real treat.
There’s plenty of space both inside and out for everyone in your party to ‘do their own thing together’, from the acres of gardens to the billiard room, and cosy lounge areas. While for special occasions there’s nowhere like the beautiful ballroom for loud and laughter-filled parties.
Food is an intrinsic part of any stay here and your chef will be always on hand to keep you well fed with delicious local foods and fine wines. Long, refectory-style tables in several rooms and plenty of space for alfresco eating make meals here a very convivial affair.
Experienced staff are on hand at every turn to ensure everything is to your liking. Just bring yourself, a good book or three and an appetite for fabulous Italian food and they will take care of the rest for yo
