Our prices show the range from the low season to the high season. Plus, if the property has catering options, the low price is for the lowest level e.g. self-catered, and the high price is for the highest level e.g. catered.
Each property has different high and low seasons. The general pattern is:
Chalets in the Alps
Low season is usually early/mid-December, mid-January, and summer.
Mid season is usually early February, March and April.
High season is usually Xmas, New Year and mid/end February.
Villas in Europe
Low season is usually April, May and October.
Mid season is usually June and September.
High season is usually July and August.
Villas in the Caribbean
Low season is usually June to November.
Mid season is usually November to mid-December and mid-April to June.
High season is usually mid-December to mid-April.
The birthplace of mountaineering, Chamonix has drawn skiers and climbers for over a century, making it one of the Alps’ most iconic destinations. Chamonix is a must-visit for anyone who loves the mountains, and so the town has a distinctive energy, filled with like-minded people off to ski, climb or hike.
Just an hour from Geneva, Chamonix is remarkably easy to reach and one of the few luxury ski resorts to combine such a short airport transfer with high-altitude skiing. Moreover, because Chamonix is a fully functioning town, rather than a purpose-built ski resort, it is a great year-round destination.
The most popular times for a luxury holiday to Chamonix are winter (December to April) and summer (May to September), when the lifts open and the full range of summer mountain activities is available.
Since the town extends along the valley, luxury chalets in Chamonix tend to be more spread out than in other ski resorts. Nevertheless, getting around is straightforward thanks to the valley’s excellent bus and train network. Avid skiers often rent a car for easier access to the separate ski areas, although parking can be busy in the peak weeks.
As the area attracts a wide range of visitors with different agendas, many luxury chalets in Chamonix do not include a driver service as standard, though it can usually be added on if the group requires it.
Chamonix’s luxury chalet market is booming with some outstanding new chalets being created each season. Our team would be delighted to help find the perfect luxury chalet in Chamonix for your next holiday.
Skiing in Chamonix is unlike anywhere else in Europe, with 5 separate ski areas spaced out along the valley. Many on their ski holidays in Chamonix choose a luxury chalet close to their preferred area, while knowing they are likely to explore the other ski areas during their stay, especially depending on weather conditions.
Brévant is the closest ski lift to the centre of Chamonix and links to the Flégère area. Together Brévant / Flégère has offers a real range of slopes best suited for intermediates with some steeper reds and a beginner area at the base. All of the skiing here is above 1,800m which ensures reliable snow and its South facing direction covers the slopes in sunshine too.
The most special part of skiing Brévant / Flégère though are the spectacular views out over Mont Blanc opposite.
Chamonix is often seen as a luxury ski resort for advanced skiers, but that’s only a small part of the picture. Les Houches is an excellent base for beginners and families.
Here, over half of the runs are green or blue ability, making it ideal for learning and exploring. It’s also one of the only tree-lined areas in the valley, which gives it a more traditionally alpine feel and better visibility on cloudy days.
As most properties sit on the valley floor below the ski area, ski-in/ski-out chalets in Chamonix are rare. Though there are a couple in Les Houches: namely Chalet Kuma and Chalet Norel. These sister chalets offer ski-in/ski-out access on the Kandahar World Cup black run, making them better suited for stronger skiers, even if the wider Les Houches area is more tailored for those building confidence.
At the far end of the valley, close to the Swiss border, Le Tour is another excellent area for beginners. Its wide, gentle pistes make learning feel relaxed and unintimidating, as most advanced skiers head elsewhere in the valley.
We have several luxury chalets in Argentière, just five minutes from Le Tour, making an excellent base for mixed-ability groups: experienced members can enjoy the advanced Grand Montets area, while beginners can easily head to Le Tour.
Les Grand Montets (Argentière)
Les Grand Montets is the highest altitude skiing in the Chamonix Valley, reaching up to the Argentière glacier at 3,275m. Argentière is a pinnacle of advanced skiing, offering a haven for those seeking deep powder and challenging descents. Its high altitude and north-facing slopes hold snow particularly well even into Spring. This really cements the area as a standout spot for experienced skiers.
Beyond the ski slopes, there’s plenty of other activities to do on a luxury holiday in Chamonix. You can stay active at the indoor pool, ice skating rink, climbing walls, and bowling alley. Chamonix’s cinema regularly has English screenings or for more culture, there’s also the Alpine Museum to learn about the rich history of the area.
Alternatively, you can, of course, just unwind in the wellness area at your luxury chalet.
Shopping is another highlight, with a range of boutiques from well-known outdoor brands such as Patagonia, The North Face and Columbia.
A favourite on a family holiday in Chamonix is the Alpine Coaster Luge, which has a 1.3km rail tobogganing route.
Finally, no visit to Chamonix is complete without a trip up the famous Aiguille du Midi cable car, rising to over 3,842m where you’ll be rewarded with incredible views of Mont Blanc and watch intrepid climbers and skiers take on the Vallée Blanche – the famous 20 km long off-piste route.
If you are staying in a self-catered luxury chalet, Chamonix’s restaurant scene has everything from casual pizzerias to a couple Michelin-starred restaurants. Le Comptoir des Alpes at Hotel Morgane is one of several fine dining restaurants, whilst local Savoyard dishes are a speciality at La Calèche and Le Monchu. Just take your pick.
If you are staying in a luxury self-catered ski chalet in Chamonix, you will find a number of restaurants in all of the smaller villages in the valley. Argentiere has a pizzeria, a tapas bar and modern cuisine, and in Les Houches there are classic French cuisine options and even an Indian restaurant.
Mont Blanc and Aiguille du Midi views are impressive throughout Chamonix, but they are especially great from the Brévent and Flégère ski areas. When skiing here you look down over the valley and directly across to the massif opposite.
Many luxury chalets in Chamonix are designed around these panoramic views. Chalet Le Mont Blanc, for example, with its open-plan living space and its swimming pool area framed by floor-to-ceiling windows, which brings the mountains right into the chalet.
Bars, music venues and nightclubs, often all mixed into one, are all over Chamonix and the surrounding area. The après ski scene is lively and fun, encompassing everything from sedate piano bars to full-on, ‘dancing on the tables to a live band’ action.
Unlike other ski resorts, the apres-ski atmosphere is centred in town rather than on the slopes. In Chamonix, La Folie Douce is in the town centre, which really reflects the broader character of Chamonix as a real mountain town with evening life focused around its streets, bars and venues rather than après-ski on the slopes.
The Mont Blanc Unlimited pass covers all of Chamonix’s separate ski areas and also extends to Megève, Saint-Gervais and Courmayeur, making it a strong option for a wider multi-resort holiday. Our specialist team would be delighted to help plan an itinerary that makes the most of it.
The Mont Blanc Unlimited Pass doesn’t apply to Ikon pass holders, however, the main Chamonix Valley ski areas (Brevent, Flegere, Grands Montets and Le Tour) fall under the Full Ikon and Ikon Base pass offering seven and five days respectively.
If you want a mix of skiing and sightseeing, the Mont Blanc Unlimited pass also includes access to the Aiguille du Midi cable car and Mer de Glace train, which are fantastic excursions for non-skiers.
Chamonix really is suitable for everyone, be it corporate groups, friends, family, couples or non-skiers. The varied skiing and choice of activities make a luxury ski holiday in Chamonix enjoyable for all.
Thanks to its distinctive layout, culture and history, we often find that North American visitors are especially struck by Chamonix. For many, it feels refreshingly different from the resort model more common in North America and is well worth a visit.
