Description
Finding a true sense of peace in today’s frantic world is becoming more difficult by the day, but we’ve done the legwork for you here and found a spot where quiet really means ‘quiet’ and the only neighbour you’re likely to see is the occasional mountain deer.
Chalet St. Lorenzen, a luxury ski chalet in the Carinthia region of Austria, has been renovated from a beautiful 17th century farmhouse. It’s made from hundred-year-old larch and pine beams and has a traditional bell tower, which would once have been used to call the farmer home for lunch (fear not – a polite and much quieter ‘lunch is served’ will suffice during your stay).
This superb ski chalet in Carinthia is surrounded by 40 acres of farmland, so there’s plenty of room to roam, with wonderful hiking and golf on your doorstep, and you’re not far from some of the world’s best skiing in winter either, in resorts such as Turracher Hoehe, Bad Kleinkirchheim and St. Oswald.
Step inside, though, and frankly we won’t be surprised if you decide not to set foot out of this luxury ski chalet all week.
Beautifully designed and thoughtfully furnished, an atmosphere of relaxed calm pervades. Muted shades make every room a cocoon and wonderful design features make this a truly unique property. The master bedroom is reached via a wooden bridge with transparent glass on each side, while elsewhere the central ceiling structure has been removed to allow you to appreciate the original roof.
Underfloor heating beneath the oak floors means getting out of bed each morning is always a delightful experience, and even in the spa-style bathrooms, local stone is heated from beneath to ensure your morning ablutions are as comfortable as possible.
There are two spacious living areas, ideal for socialising. One has a dining area and a traditional plastered stove, the other an open fireplace and sunken TV area. And there are plenty of boltholes to escape to as well, from the study in the loft to the children’s play area on the landing, so there’s never any danger of getting under each other’s feet.
And all the little details have been taken care of too, from the outdoor hot tub with mountain views to the chalet’s very own cellar. Once here, we’ll be surprised if you ever leave.
