What we love about Ski Resorts in Switzerland

Well let’s start with the mountains themselves. It’s as if Switzerland was tailor made for luxury ski holidays. Almost the whole country is covered with high peaks, making the perfect playground in both summer and winter. In summer the warm, sunny climate attracts walkers, hikers, mountaineers, road cyclists and mountain bikers to get out there and explore the Swiss mountains.

In winter, Switzerland gets a dusting of snow and comes alive as a winter sports paradise. There are ski resorts dotted all over the country and our collection of properties includes the very best ski resorts in Switzerland.

And then there are the ski chalets. Swiss luxury ski chalets to rent set the standard for beautiful ‘chocolate-box’ wooden chalet architectural style. The original and still the best, luxury ski chalets in Switzerland just look the part and ooze alpine charm. Old or new, Swiss ski chalets possess a certain look which just fits perfectly into the pristine alpine environment.

My personal favourite are the ancient old chalets which have been standing against the elements forever with gathered gnarled timbers, but have been fully renovated on the inside to make a luxury ski chalet to die for.

Best time to visit Switzerland

The ski season in Switzerland varies by resort but normally runs from early/mid December to late April. The higher ski resorts open earlier and close later in the season, with some, such as Zermatt which has a glacier, actually offering year round skiing. Out of the main ski season, however, this is only on Zermatt’s glacier, and does not cover the whole ski resort. The main ski resort is normally operational from early December to late April.

Switzerland is truly a fantastic destination almost all year round. The temperatures in the summer can reach the mid to late 20s with plentiful blue skies. Crans-Montana claims 300 days of sunshine on the Haut Plateau.
