Located at the entrance to the resort, La Daille offers excellent ski-in/ski-out access and a quieter atmosphere. It’s well connected to the centre via lifts and buses, making it a practical choice for those prioritising skiing convenience.
A picturesque hamlet at the far end of the valley, Le Fornet feels more traditional and secluded. It offers quick access to some of the best off-piste terrain and appeals to those looking for a quieter, more refined base.
If easy access to the slopes is a priority, look for properties close to the Bellevarde and Solaise lifts, or in La Daille. Many of the most sought-after chalets offer true ski-in/ski-out access, allowing you to maximise your time on the mountain.
Val d’Isere has a reputation as being one of the best ski resorts in the world, and for good reason. For a start, it’s vast. Val d’Isère is one of the world’s best ski resorts, and as you would expect, the chalet rental rates are relatively high compared to some resorts. It is home to a huge selection of ski chalets, including some of the best in the world.
Prices vary based on the time of year. Christmas and February half-term rentals cost more than end-of-season stays. Chalet size, features and services like drivers or catering also adjust the price point. The town of Val d’Isère sits at an altitude of 1,850 meters, so is one of the higher ski resorts in the Alps. However, the ski area goes up to a very lofty 3,450m, so sits above most other ski areas. It is easy to ski all day in the 2000m to 3000m zone. The high altitude means snow conditions are usually very good.
Val d’Isère works really well for beginner skiers. The resort offers several beginner-friendly zones, such as the nursery slopes near the village and some well-groomed green runs like those in the Solaise area. These areas provide a safe environment for newcomers to build confidence while enjoying the stunning scenery.
Even though the resort is renowned for its extensive skiing with many advanced pistes, it is also a great option for novice skiers. There are many fantastic green runs and some lovely easy blues to inspire confidence. There is also a beautiful variety of runs for intermediate skiers to enjoy and test themselves.
Val d’Isère is a good ski resort for families, but it depends on the needs and preferences of your group. The resort offers excellent facilities for children, including events and activities, dedicated beginner zones, ski schools with highly skilled instructors, and childcare services. Family-friendly accommodation is also widespread, including chalets with playrooms and hotels with amenities like kids’ clubs.
