Veysonnaz is a small, quaint village, complete with rustic luxury ski chalets, a charming church and a smattering of restaurants, just across the piste map from Verbier. Visitors can enjoy the same extensive ski resort but from an altogether quieter base.
Like Verbier, Veysonnaz is in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, in the heart of the Valais region. It has commanding views over the Rhone Valley and has the advantage of easy accessibility. The transfer time from Geneva is about 1h 45mins and it’s a mere 25mins from Sion airport.
Don’t expect the same buzzing nightlife of its glamorous neighbour Verbier, Veysonnaz is a calm, peaceful village, making it a wonderful luxury ski holiday destination for families with children.
The ski season runs from mid-December to the end of April although some of the lifts may not be open during the first and last few weeks.
We love the quiet, crowd-free slopes of the Veysonnaz ski area, combined with the fast access to the huge 4 Valleys ski area.
Geneva airport is approximately 2 hours drive away and Bern airport is around 2 hours 10 minutes drive.
Veysonnaz forms part of the extensive 4 Valleys ski area giving a huge range of ski terrain to keep even the best skiers entertained. There are plenty of options for all ability levels of skiers on a luxury ski holiday in Veysonnaz, from children and beginners to even the most extreme adrenalin junkie.
The 4 Valleys has a well-earned reputation as being somewhat of an off-piste mecca and offers some of the best lift-served off-piste routes in the Alps.
But Veysonnaz is not just for the hardcore powder hounds. The runs around the Veysonnaz Valley are gentle, quiet and crowd-free – perfect for children and beginners.
The lifts have recently been updated and there are now high-speed lifts to quickly link from Veysonnaz to the rest of the 4 Valleys ski area.
Although fairly quiet, there are a handful of good restaurants in Veysonnaz itself, so there are plenty of options for a week’s holiday, particularly when staying in a self-catered luxury ski chalet.
The 4 Valleys ski area is not short of a good mountain restaurant, many with views to die for.
For a Vin Chaud at the end of a good day’s skiing, try the Le Tipi wigwam before heading back to your luxury ski chalet, it is located just below the Piste de L’Ours near the Veysonnaz cable car upper station at 2000m, which often has live music.
If you are feeling hungry for lunch, nothing beats the hunter’s rösti at the Les Chottes mountain restaurant, complete with a spectacular panoramic view.
