Some would say that Morzine is the perfect family friendly ski resort, due to its Alpine charm and first class facilities. It is – you could argue – neither too loud, nor too quiet. Lovely old village houses and creaking wooden barns still stand as testament to Morzine’s pastoral origins, but beneath the surface is a thrumming, year-round, action-packed resort. Set at the heart of the Portes du Soleil ski region, it is mostly made up of luxury chalets, offering a great choice to families and groups of friends alike.
If you are looking for chalets close to Geneva, then Morzine is for you. Being only an hour and a half away from Geneva airport gives it the edge over other resorts when it comes to easy access, making it an excellent choice for a long weekend. You can choose between traditional, boutique chic or achingly hip styles of chalet, some of which are ski-in/ski-out.
The skiing is a broad mix of the gentle and the challenging, with an impressive array of links to neighbouring resorts within the Portes du Soleil area. One day you can conquer the picturesque slopes of Les Gets, while the next you can ski over to Avoriaz and Chatel, or hop across the Swiss border to Morgins. There are also several nursery slopes and children’s ski clubs in this family friendly ski resort.
Morzine is popular in the summer too, with visitors making use of the beautiful luxury chalets as a base for mountain biking, walking and relaxing.
Chalet La Maison is an 18th century building that has been renovated to become one of the most impressive luxury ski chalets in France. In the hamlet of Montriond, Chalet La Maison from the outside looks like a traditional French Alpine farmhouse, but open the front door and you’re met with a beautifully extravagant stone staircase ahead.
The impressive layout of the property, whilst staying loyal to some of the original features, makes for an open-plan living space with glass floors, a floating wine cellar and an Italian DeManincor island kitchen. From below you can see the dancing LED lights from the breathtaking indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi.
A 5 minute stroll from the centre of Morzine is Lodge des Nants in all its glory. This chalet really does have everything you could possibly want. Ideal for large family or friend groups, the chalet has huge open-plan spaces, perfect for entertaining.
Walking around Lodge des Nants, you’d be amazed by the first four floors, but once you reach the fifth and final floor, this chalet really comes into its own. Huge sofas around a central fireplace, with a large bar area, pool table and terrace with an outdoor hot tub. Need I say more?
Branded the “James Bond pad”, Chalet Joux Plane certainly does impress. Walking through the chalet, you’ll immediately notice the attention to detail and effort that has gone into making this chalet ultra luxurious. One of the key features of the chalet has got to be the glass staircase, through which you can see the stunning indoor/outdoor heated swimming pool below.
From the back of the chalet, you can crack open a bottle of bubbles, taking in the absolutely stunning view of the mountains and valley, whilst dipping into the outdoor hot tub. We really don’t think you’ll want to miss this…
Where do we start with The Old Macaroni? This beautiful farmhouse has been transformed into an ultra luxurious chalet with a completely unique style. Each of the bedrooms has a different theme, adorned with fresh flowers, stand alone roll-top baths and velvet cushions.
While the adults spend their evenings in the outdoor hot tub, the children will likely find themselves in the Harry Potter themed bedroom with toys, books and games…maybe it is my inner child talking but doesn’t that sound irresistible?
