St. Anton is an all-time favourite ski resort. Not only are there plenty of luxury ski chalets to choose from but the skiing is fantastic, especially for intermediate and advanced skiers. There are high, sunny bowls and an extensive ski area, known as the Arlberg ski area, which includes Lech and Zürs on the same ski pass. Although not especially high, St. Anton has a very good snow record and is one of the best resorts for snow reliability.
We love the wonderfully varied terrain and beautiful views in every direction. The après ski in St. Anton is famous, but for those looking for a more relaxed pace, there are some lovely cafes in the car-free village centre. Creamy hot chocolates and pastries await to tempt you down the mountain before you head back to your luxury ski chalet.
St. Anton itself is a pretty village of traditional Tyrolean buildings and is full of energy and character.
The nearest airport is Innsbruck which is 1 hr 15 mins away. Zurich airport is 2 hrs 10 mins away. Friedrichshafen airport is 1 hr 50 mins minutes away.
Located in the Arlberg region of Austria, St. Anton is somewhat of a mecca for keen skiers – and for good reason. There is a huge amount of easily accessible and varied terrain, dramatic scenery and endless freeriding possibilities. There are very few places in Europe better to be on a powder day.
For beginners on a luxury ski holiday in St.Anton, there are a couple of nursery areas and the baby slope at Nasserein has a new moving carpet lift.
The Flexenbahn cableway links Zurs with Stuben, meaning that the entire Arlberg skiing area is accessible on skis. This includes the resorts of; St. Anton, Zurs, Lech, Oberlech, St. Christoph as well as Schröcken and Warth. It is the largest linked ski area in Austria. The lift system is now one of the best, rivalling some of the super-efficient French resorts. As a result, queues have been reduced significantly.
St. Anton has earned a reputation as one of the liveliest ski resorts. There is a buzz about the place, which becomes evident once the après-ski starts (which is quite early in St. Anton).
The Mooserwirt, positioned on the piste, is quite an experience – one that everybody should do at least once in their life. What starts as a perfectly normal restaurant and bar at lunchtime becomes a boot-stomping oompah-beerfest by mid-afternoon. Worth a look, even as a spectator on a luxury ski holiday in St.Anton.
There are plenty of dining options up the mountain, and the Verwallstube at Galzig, with its superb food and excellent views, is well recommended.
Down the mountain, the Village Museum restaurant serves excellent sophisticated food in elegant panelled rooms great for exploring on chef night off at your luxury catered ski chalet.
