To me, simply saying the words ‘St Tropez’ conjures up images of superyachts, celebrities, and some of the finest luxury villas on the Côte d’Azur. Undeniably it’s all of the above but its also so much more. St Tropez has somehow managed to retain its Provençal village charm whilst also becoming a mecca for the rich and famous with fabulous restaurants, designer boutiques and a vibrant nightlife.
St Tropez is at its post popular from May to September and whether you’re here for a week or the whole season we’ve outlined below the things we love most about this charming town.
The port, lined with extravagant yachts, is probably the most widely recognisable image of St Tropez. This is the place to be seen and you could easily while away a day at some of the best cafes and bars which line the marina by people watching and soaking up the atmosphere. Why not start with a coffee at the famous Café Senequier with its bright red awnings and or spend the evening with a glass of French wine at Le Girelier, an elegant restaurant with great seafood dishes and a view on to the promenade.
The Beaches of St Tropez
Those heading to St Tropez in the summer for their luxury villa holiday on the Côte d’Azur will no doubt want to spend time on the beaches and of the many in and around St Tropez the biggest and best know is Pampelonne Beach in Ramatuelle, which is around 6 kilometers away from the town. The white sand beach is over 5km long and home to some of the most famous and glamourous beach clubs in France. Of these Club 55 is perhaps the best known, perfect for lunch and a spot of people watching. Do remember to book in advance if you want a table at lunch or dinner or a sun lounger for the day.
For those looking for a livelier atmosphere try Nikki Beach, a stylish hangout for when you are in the party mood. Come here to lounge on oversized sunbeds and dance to world famous DJs.
If you are looking to stay a little closer to St Tropez village there are smaller beaches closer the town such as Plage des Graniers, Plage de la Ponche and Plage Fontanette that are well worth a visit.
Before finding fame in the 1950s co-starring with Brigitte Bardot on the silver screen, St Tropez was a traditional fishing village and by heading to the old town it is still possible to experience the ambiance first hand. The tree-lined Place des Lices is where the bi-weekly provençal market is held every Tuesday and Saturday morning and is the perfect place to pick up local produce and souvenirs including vintage posters and antiques. When the market isn’t on you’ll find groups of locals playing boule and plenty of others just enjoying the restaurants and cafes that line the square.
Luxury Villas in St Tropez
Of course I couldn’t talk about what to do in St Tropez without also mentioning where to stay. Staying in a luxury villa in St Tropez gives you the privacy of your own private space to relax and enjoy the sunshine.
Some of our favourites include the stunning Villa Pearl; a Provençal-style luxury villa with a chef close to the centre of St Tropez and Villa Calanthe; a beautiful fully catered villa with staff and wonderful views over the Bay of St Tropez, located within walking distance of the beach.
Both of these stunning luxury villas in St Tropez have their own in-house chef and housekeeping team to look after you.
In your own luxury villa you can be sure of being well looked after from the first minute of your holiday to the last, what could be better?
Why not time your trip to St Tropez on the Côte d’Azur to coincide with one of the many events that run in and around the town throughout the year, from music festivals to sporting events and regattas.
Events in St Tropez
One of the most exciting events in the calendar, Les Voiles des Saint Tropez comes to the town at the end of September. This classic regatta marks the end of the sailing season and with over 300 yachts, both modern and traditional, competing in a weeks worth of races this is an event not to be missed and the perfect opportunity for sailing enthusiasts to combine a sporting spectacular with a luxury villa holiday in St Tropez.
